MicroP - Phenom M - 5820K - GTX 1070

catbutts

This build log comes with a COOL SPEC SHEET to compensate for my MICROP-

Lately, I've been spending a butt ton of time in Revit and Rhino. Renderings in Rhino are actually pretty fast, but everything else seems really sluggish on my 3570K (though if I was only gaming, I bet my 3570K would last like 5 more years).

I'd been saving money each month since before the 5820K was even released (I originally wanted a 3960x), so when I saw how this year's extreme editions ended up, I was like "aight the waiting game ain't worth it."

I've always wanted to build small. My first case was a huuge NZXT Phantom, then I moved into an Air 540, and now I've got a BitFenix Phenom M--maybe my next build will be in the itx version :D

Anyway--here we go!

Cable management in this case feels really easy--just shove everything into a cube in the corner above the psu

Hopefully you can even tell what's goin on here

Spent a LITTLE WHILE trying to figure out why the system wouldn't post

Motherboard kept spitting out code b0 and 53. Was a RAM issue so I quickly bought 1 stick off Gigabyte's qualified vendor list for $16.

Updated BIOS, got my *** recognized, and finally booted with my original RAM.

Some finishing pics!

I'm really happy with this build--it felt more roomy and organized than in my Air 540 somehow?? It kinda feels good to ditch my custom watercooling stuff, but a lot of actual blood and sweat went into my previous build and I'll miss it!

I did a quick test with 100% stock fans/clocks

It's near silent, with the fan never going above 57% and I haven't seen any higher than 83C in other tests

I may keep it this way--the current setup has fresh air coming in through two intake fans which then carry warm radiator air directly onto the gpu. Not sure how much I can push the card while keeping it this quiet at ~80C
