Is it possible to skip the login screen with MC account?

BigFix

Hi Everyone,

So far I have been using my windows 10 pc (latest build) with a local user because of the whole login screen thing that just annoying the hell out of me..

But now, with the whole 'play anywhere' thing of xbox I want to connect my microsoft account to my pc, is there any way to skip the login password screen? I know you can set a PIN code

but this is not a good solution for me personally as I tend to leave my pc when powering it and get back to it later when all is up and running. I saw this https://www.tekrevue.com/tip/skip-windows-10-login-screen/

but it seems to work only with local user and not with Microsoft account (tried it) is there any other way? can I just login to the xbox app with my microsoft account and keep using a local user with the rest of the services?

I have 2-steps enabled if it matters.

Thanks a lot.

You would need to un-link your Windows live account and use a local account that's set without a password.

I have, sort-of done that. But I have no clue how I did it in the first place. Also I'm not a 100% sure if I actually did it with my microsoft account. Seeing that a new PC just copied all my personal stuff (BG, theme coloring etc) I would say it is.

The basic idea behind it is you still manually login to the system using a password. You just automate the typing of the password. I've done this back when win 10 stable release came out so i'm quite fuzzy on the details. I think I used cmd to make a command that will login automatically. Do note that this does not work when the computer comes out of sleepmode, only from restart.

No idea why you guys are saying it doesn't work since it does.

@BigFix make sure to correctly follow the instructions you linked, ALSO, the user you want to auto-log MUST be an administrator, if the user is in the "HomeUser" group it will NOT work, I think that might be why it didn't work for you.

EDIT:

I would swear that last time I tried to remove the password from an account tied to Windows Live, it told me I have to use a local account. Will re-check.

Ok so, the checkbox is still there for me, but once I choose to let users sign in without a password, I get a pop-up window asking me for account details (to automatically login) and it looks like this only accepts local accounts.

Furthermore, in the settings app you don't get an option to "remove password" unless using a local account. Am I missing something here?

Me neither, but all hail Teamviewer :)

PS: I did try to enable it even using my Windows Live account. It kept the setting but completely ignored it, still gave me a login prompt.
