Gaming Laptop

Hello,

I am looking to buy a new gaming laptop and my current budget is about 1000Euros or 1100$.

Some of the things i found in my budget were:

- Lenovo IdeaPad Y700-15ISK :15.6'', i7 6700HQ, 8GB DDR4 RAM,  HDD 1TB @5400 RPM, GTX 960m 4GB.

- Asus ROG GL752VW-T4015D: 17,3'', i7 6700HQ, 8GB DDR4 RAM, HDD 1TB @7200RPM, GTX 960m 4GB

And some other laptops that have mostly the same specs.

I will probably use this laptop for playing some of the newer games on the market (i know i will not be able to max the hell out of them though) but i am not sure if i will be able to.

Any recommendations are welcomed.

I cant tell you which laptop to buy because it's not my area of expertise, but I will tell you this.

A. the desktop grade 1060 is going to start being put into laptops so maybe wait

B. I have an Asus laptop and while it's not the best build quality, it's pretty solid. Also I've used some Lenovo laptops and they usually look pretty slick and are of nice build quality.

Thanks for the recommendation but...what makes this laptop better than the others. From what i can see its roughly the same as the Lenovo.

But will the laptops equipped with the 1060 fit in my budget?

We don't know quite yet. Since the current ones have 960ms in them they might have the same price point, but probably not. BUT since most of them aren't out yet, by the time one that is slightly over your budget comes out you could have saved enough for it. I could be wrong though so take it with a grain of salt

EDIT: meant to quote it with OPs post that sais "But will the laptops equipped with the 1060 fit my budget?".

What? They've been out since August 16th. Most of them. Only people that haven't followed up is Alienware. @Sero.o1 All 1060 laptops start at a minimum of $1300.

It's actually considerably higher in the EU. $1300 is for US. In the EU it's probably around 1400 euros to start.

I really don't see how it's a bad video, yes it's not the most accurate specs wise but that's not the point of the video, he's trying to be easily understood, plus he says himself that his build is far from optimal and suggests looking into that, but the main idea of buying a chromebook (or similar) for school and use the saved money for a powerful desktop is actually quite good.

No it's not that. I agree with the Chromebook part. But it's complete bullshit that a 200 dollar chromebook is a fun experience. You would buy that if you were on EXTREME budget. In addition, his build is so bad not because it isn't optimal. It's because he doesn't include a screen, a mouse, a keyboard, speakers, webcam, all those things that would come with a laptop that would add hundreds of dollars to the price tag. The idea of splitting money for laptop + desktop is only viable for the much higher end of gaming notebooks like 2.5k + where real diminishing returns kick in.

Currently the best and also coincidentally cheapest 1060 laptop the P650RP6 starts at 1300 dollars. There is no way you're pricing a 1060 desktop + monitor + mouse + keyboard + speaker + webcam + LAPTOP under 1300 dollars comfortably without using extremely bad peripherals. That would defeat the point of it's value position and ease of use as in addition to having a shitty laptop that is terrible to use, your PC at home's quality of life is also down the drain because you had to skimp on quality peripherals.

it depends on what you do, but if you're only browsing internet and writing essays a 200$ chrome book is actually better than most 400-500$ computers.

then most people already have some if not all of those peripherals, furthermore even the cheapest keyboard will be equivalent or better than a laptop's one, and you'll still need a mouse, webcams are not mandatory for most people and again can be found on the cheap, the only peripherals that not everyone might have are speakers and monitor, again speakers are often integrated in the monitor or really cheap (that will again be better), so the only real peripheral is the monitor but a lot of people have one already.

So it depends on each and everyone's situation.

And finally there's no way that it's cheaper in the long run, and maybe you'll save 50-100$ now but you'll lose a lot more down the road with a gaming laptop.

but since OP answered nicely and clearly my suggestion, I suggest that we end this discussion here to avoid polluting his thread.

Thank you all for the suggestions, i will go with the Inspiron 7559 laptop and see how that turns out.

The only question remains if i should buy the 999 Euros 8GB RAM and no SSD 7559 and upgrade it along the way or the 1250 Euros 16GB RAM and 128GB SSD 7559. @Wedsea040, what do you think?

Refurbished. This means it was returned to Dell, they checked it over/repaired it, and gave it a new reinstall of windows. They are usually a lot cheaper. I got mine for 750 euro with 8gb ram and a 1tb hdd. There are no cosmetic mistakes either on mine.

Did you buy it off Dell's website or some other online shop?

Ebay for me. But between those two I would get the 999 euro one and put this in it https://www.amazon.de/Transcend-MTS800-M-2-128GB-SATA/dp/B00KLTPURI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1474250439&sr=8-2&keywords=m.2+ssd then reinstall windows with the included USB drive to the new ssd. That's what I did.

Thanks a lot for the help! :D

I'd suggest going for the Y700 - people really fanboy over the 7559 but that is a budget laptop. Y700 is better in many ways - it has superior build quality, a MUCH better keyboard (7559's keyboard is garbage), better screen and VASTLY superior speakers - the audio system on the 7559 is just bad.

This one's not bad

It's actually quite bad - QC issues as well as noise - MSI's low end laptops use VERY small and loud fans - cooling is mediocre but the noise is absurd. Battery life is also VERY bad - 1-2 hours at most.

As for VRAM - 2GB is not enough for anything - even Dota 2 uses 3GB now...

If you game on battery, yes the battery life would only last at max 1-2 hours (getting around 1.5 hours on gaming by itself is already a great achievement), if you turn on the fans to max yes the noise absurd but under non-gaming load, the noise are not that high and speaking of the 2GB vs 4GB on a GTX 960M... Even for a game like Dota 2, it won't even get past 2GB VRAM and since it is a 960M, chances of it utilizes the whole 4GB VRAM is really really low unless if you're opening multiple graphically demanding stuffs simultaneously.
