From WCCF, Kaby Lake Core i7 7700K up for pre order from some Estonian site. Clock at 4.2GHz with Turbo unknown. 95w TDP and runs on socket 1151.

Cost 360 Euro which comes out to about $400 US dollars.

Non K i7 power consumption reduced by 19w while keeping same clocks as i7-4790 hmmm. I am personally not impressed. I keep my hopes for Cannonlake or 7nm. My CPU is great for next couple of years.

Kaby Lake might work with the Z170, but it's made for the Z270. Looks like Intel is going back to the socket 775 days, where newer cpus will not be compatible with older chipsets, even when both uses the exact same socket.

It will probably be compatible, it has been the case for the last 6+ years that the die shrink would be compatible with previous gen chipsets. But I don't recommend upgrading from a 6700k at all - even though we don't know certain performance numbers if the last 5 years are any indication it will be a 5% boost at most.

TDP is not a measure of power use. It measures how much heat (thermal) the component is (designed) to handle at full power.

It should be cooler than my CPUI then and therefore able to produce higher clocks at same temps as mine.

Though, do you really feel the need to upgrade? Granted my cpu is a generation newer but i dont feel like my CPU is being taxed at all when i work or play games. It really feels like after a certain point CPU horsepower doesnt matter nearly as much.

Which is kind of sad, though it is their fault for doing their usual "completely new architecture" trick with Bulldozer, and utterly failing after that. Lets just hope that Zen becomes K7 all over again-it beat the shit out of Pentium III with its far faster FPU.

Totally AMDs fault. If Intel is not pushed to do better, they wont. They are in position to ask $1700 for a CPU..... Wish Samsung stepped into the market or helped AMD in upcoming years with whatever comes after Zen.
