Android updates apps in background while gaming

porina

This has annoyed me for a while and it feels like it is getting worse. If I'm in a game on my tablet, that's fine until android decides to update other apps in the background. This at best slows the game down to being unplayable, at worse it kills it. Thankfully the biggest time sink I'm on recovers on restart, but it is still annoying.

I suspect android doesn't update when on battery power. As I use the tablet in bed it doesn't get charged overnight, and the first top up charge is in the morning when I also want to do stuff.

I know you can turn off auto-updates totally, but I do want them, just not to run while in use. Would hope they have some sort of activity sensing to not update while it is in intensive use.

Wondering what is best solution to get around this... maybe I could add a charger near my bed and hope it gets updates out of the way before the morning. Or is there some other setting I could tweak?
