PS4 Pro announced along with Slim model

Quote

Under the hood, the PlayStation 4 Pro features an all new semi-custom SoC designed by Sony and AMD. The CPU component sticks to the "Jaguar/Puma" architecture, with 8 cores, but features higher CPU clock speeds. The 8 GB GDDR5 memory is said to run at higher clocks, too, and is bolstered by new lossless memory compression tech by AMD. The GPU component is where the action is. The GPU features over double the shading power of the PS4, and is based on the "Polaris" GPU architecture. The PS4 Pro also ships with a bigger 1 TB hard drive. There is seamless interplayability between PS4 and PS4 Pro. PS4 games you already own are being added with higher-resolution content meant for PS4 Pro. The console also has the muscle for PS-VR. For those still holding on to 1080p HDTVs, the PS4 Pro rewards with higher visual detail, more geometric complexity, and better effects, at that resolution. The PS4 Pro starts at $399.

though not officially confirmed, the PS4 slim already found its way to the web the last weeks. Several video’s and images of the redesigned console surfaced, and even some teardown videos were published. On today’s Playstation Meeting, CEO Andrew House officially announced the PS4 Slim, which will be released later this month on September 15 for $299 (€ 299).

IMO i feel sorry for anyone who has just bought a PS4, they should have waited

Here are the pics and prices of both models

TL:DR: Slim is cheaper and has new design. Pro is 2x more powerful and supports 4K gaming

Bought a PS4 last year...Kind of regret it but not really, since the new PS4 doesn't come in an MGSV red and gold color scheme ^^

I only play exclusives on it anyways and do most of my gaming on PC.

So. This is Project Neo. It's official - the PS4.5 is a real thing.

It's pretty powerful for the $500 price tag though, if the shaders and Polaris extrapolate out correctly. Still a pretty weak CPU, but that can be overcome using the low-level nature of console API's.

This will directly compete with Project Scorpio (The XBOX equivalent of this), but the Scorpio isn't coming out until next year, I had thought. The Scorpio also boasts MUCH more powerful "specs", even higher than the PS4 Pro.

This will temporarily give Sony a huge boost over XBOX though, even if the Scorpio turns out to totally destroy it (and the Scorpio could also turn out to be a disappointment).

Man I wish I didn't fucking hate using a PlayStation. The controllers are (in my opinion, and my opinion only) complete and utter garbage. I find the XB360 and XBO controllers to be far superior in comfort and usability, which is why I will never own a PlayStation.

You could 4K game on the PS4 Pro. Just don't expect The Witcher 3 at max settings at 4K. The devs will obviously have to balance graphics vs resolution. But you could easily take existing PS4 games and probably just render them in 4K for the most part, with pretty decent performance (Speculation though).

I like the Xbox Franchise, but damn, the consoles are fucking unreliable. (I'm on my second 360 and it just red ringed)

I imagine since they're aiming for a 30 fps target they'll be rendering somewhere around 1440p or above and upscaling to 4k in most games.

Have you tried the DS4 controllers?

They're much better than the DS3 and i prefer them to the XB360 gamepad.

MEA gameplay demo indicates that it can actually play games at 2160p. Although I'm pretty sure it's not at a solid 60fps and likely not all the features were enabled. Also frostbite seems to be able to run really well while looking great.

Dude, all consoles are "unreliable". There were plenty of PS3's to crap out on people too.

I owned an XB360, and it never died on me once. Worked great until the day I got rid of it. Plus, an XBOX 360 is a 11 year old product. Think about what using an 11 year old computer would be like...

The Devs will likely have 100% choice in this regard. Especially since many users will be buying a PS4 Pro and using it on a 1080p HDTV.

I have, and in my opinion, it's still uncomfortable, badly laid out garbage. Though it's an improvement, to be sure. This is entirely personal preference. I pick up an XBO controller (or an old 360 one), and it just feels 100% natural in my hand. Holding a DS controller (of any generation) feels like I'm holding an N64 controller that's upside down and backwards.

No $399 PC can do 4k gaming well, it will be interesting to see how the PS4 Pro handles it.

The PS4s looks fine, but wtf were you thinking Sony with the design of the PS4 pro?

Eh I'll stick with the PS4, I'd consider maybe getting a One S for shits and giggles. Though I'm building a PC first.

4K yeah right, upscaled 1080p you mean. Unless you mean these 2D side scrollers, then sure, 4K. But literary anything else, not a chance in hell. Same with VR. Only the simple stuff, so games that you play once and then never ever replay again because they have 0 replay value.

Back to 30fps I guess but 4K sounds like an acctual performance leap compared to the letdown this gen was.

That's blatantly not true. In most cases, the GPU is what's holding back the PS4 and XBO, not the Jaguar cores. Yes, they're weak as balls, but consoles also use a Vulkan/DX12-"like" low level API, so they can leverage a much faster GPU paired with a slower CPU.

If the PS4 Pro really does have double the Shaders (And they're Polaris too), this could EASILY drive 1080p60.

It isn't. 4K 30 FPS should be the same amount of data that you need for 1080p 120 FPS. At least that is what Digital Foundry said in one of their videos.
