i3 Bottleneck

Hi,

I was just browsing the web for a simple upgrade for my pc for some of the new games that will be released in the near future (like Battlefield 1 at 1080p 60fps, i'm not a graphics whore).

I currently have an i3 4170 and have seen on other forums that this will bottleneck the rx 470 which is a card i would like to get. However, when scanning through the forums i have come across threads where it is said that that the i3 4130 will not bottleneck the rx 470 even though the 4170 and 4130 are almost the same with the 4170 having a higher boost clock.

So will i have to make a cpu upgrade to run the rx 470 or are these unreliable sources.

May i also say that i do not need any gpu upgrade options as i have a set budget and if my cpu is capable I may go for a more beefier gpu like the 1060 which i have heard will be bottlenecked. (another question is whether the bottleneck on a 1060 be extreme enough to not purchase it at all)

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3175348/core-4130-470.html

This link above contains an answer to the main question stating  "Of course you can" which indicates the 4130 will not bottleneck the rx 470.

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3163808/4170-bottleneck-470.html

Whereas in this link it states that the 4170 would bottleneck the rx 470.

Many Thanks for any answers.

I wouldn't really see the i3 bottlenecking the rx470.  I don't really see that first link having a lot of supporting evidence as to why it would bottleneck the rx470, of course honestly I don't have a lot of evidence as to why the i3 wouldn't bottleneck it. Personally it doesn't make sense to me as I see a lot of i3 users now upgrading to GPU's such as the 1060 and not reporting any issues. I don't think there would be any issues with you getting 60fps on ultra with a i3 and rx470.

Let's see, initial plan was to spend money only on GPU. Read some info from "experts" saying cpu will bottleneck. Believe in it and wonders if it will bottleneck or not bottleneck.

2 paths for you

Believe in it and just buy a new PC along with that RX470, imo that will be the most stupidest decision ever

Don't give a f*ck and just get the RX470, play game and works great, screw this bottleneck bullshit.

So would you recommend an upgrade to a 1060 with my current cpu? Baring in mind that i would like to future proof my pc as much as i can with a cpu upgrade coming in the future.

But would it be worth it to fuck the 470 and get a gtx 1060?

Sure if you're willing, though honestly I can't really vouch for the 1060. I honestly recommend AMD now for graphics cards in this range. The RX 480 might give you a bit more price per performance. All depends on what you want really. If you wanna start going into 2k territory I'd recommend a 1070 and atleast a i5, but yeah a i3 and 1060 should be fine if you want.

Get which ever card you want that's within your budget. As for future proof, there is no future proof in your PC. Only way to future proof is to get a brand new PC. What is future proof?

e.g. Your current computer does not have USB Type C, so you went out and got a USB Type C PCIe card. Now your PC is future proof.

Sall gud :) i'm glad I could help. If you need anything else just reply man i'll help with whatever, but like NumLock said really there is no such thing as future proofing, so upgrade to what you really know is going to help you best in your situation.
