Sigh Taren again? His complete lack of interest in, and knowledge about, technology while co-hosting a technology livestream is so grating. Plus if I wanted to watch a video hosted by someone who understood the subjects covered less than I did I'd watch The Tek.

I enjoy Taren on the WAN show, he has mastered the art of derailing Linus's train of thought beautifully

You guys really dropped the ball on the Apple story, it's absolutely in no way inline with what's going on.

The EU investigation concluded that the Irish government didn't do anything wrong with the two tax rulings and they were in their full right to give these rulings. What Apple then did with those rulings is where the problem is. By passing profits to an HQ (yes on paper Apple HQ is located in Ireland and Apple is an Irish company) which only exists on paper (nobody works there) they were able to bypass almost all national and international taxation and they only paid 0.005% taxes on all profit between 2003 and 2014.

http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-16-2923_en.htm

That wasn't really nice of Apple to say the least. Jobs for citizens isn't a thing here because NOBODY WORKED FOR THEM!

the problem for other EU countries is that Ireland is currently receiving alot of financial aid from the EU and the IMF, they're in what Americans would reffer to as a "Bailout programme". Their economy isn't really all that going well to say the least and they've received almost 23 billion euro's in aid from the EU and IMF against almost 0% interest and are projected to receive a total of 85 billion euro's in aid. Ireland is indirectly channelling this money to tech companies by creating a tax haven for those companies, a tax haven they can't afford.

Finally what they're doing is creating an unfair advantage for Apple because these rulings target Apple specifically. in short it allows Apple to maximize profits over the backs of millions of EU citizens.
