LG has launched a new Fridge. Powered by Windows 10???

AlTech

LG has launched a new Fridge. But this isn't your grandpa's fridge!!! It runs Windows 10 xD. Lol.

And because it runs Windows 10 but in an unconventional form factor, we need to remind ourselves about what kind of programs/apps this will use.

lgfridgenew-9.0.jpg

This Fridge is possible because of the below block diagram......

onecorewindows.jpg

The fridge would come under the most right category on the diagram.

App support will be on a case by case basis but generally any Universal Windows Platform apps for Windows 10 will work.

So here are the specs we know:

LG is using a 29-inch touchscreen that's also translucent. It's actually really impressive to simply look at, and it's fast and fluid to use. LG's own Windows 10 apps are designed so you can stick notes to the fridge, set a timer, add recipes and healthy information about meals, or simply mark food that you can see through the translucent display. It seems slightly bizarre to have an Intel Atom processor and 2GB of RAM inside your fridge, but once I flicked over to Microsoft Edge to watch some YouTube videos I was intrigued at the idea

So this is neat. While I can't 100% tell you why I'd want Windows 10 running on a fridge, I would definitely buy one if I had to buy a new fridge sometime soon.

Yeah. Especially with apps which deal with shopping lists. It would be great if they added automatic suggestions for what to buy based in what's, not in your fridge

Well we need a new fridge at home... Can we choose wether its Windows 10 or 10 Pro 32-64bit? Wonder if it come with a stock cooler aswell.

This should be 10 Home 64 Bit since that's what OEMs choose to buy for their devices.

Aya......... Too many specific drivers would be needed for that....

It's much easier to just use an Atom CPU.

Does it have I/O? can I plug in a keyboard and mouse and use steam in fridge streaming?

If it had TB3 just get a razer core and put it in the freezer.

Does is come in gamer RGB?

Update: It seems as if LG is tackling apps by making some "essential" apps for the fridge available.

LG's own Windows 10 apps are designed so you can stick notes to the fridge, set a timer, add recipes and healthy information about meals, or simply mark food that you can see through the translucent display

Things people do with a fridge: open the door, take food (beer included) out of it, close the door.

Things people don't do with a fridge: use a fucking tablet strapped to one of its doors.
