or @Hero7750's his has a usb plug for power. which would give the black box power to do the conversion. yours doesn't have a power source. it probably wouldn't have worked at all

wait a minute does the PC have DVI in the back too? If so you can get a DVI to HDMI adapter for a few bucks, DVI is just HDMI with no sound and a different connector

Neither mine or his have USB power. HDMI can power some devices that dont need a lot of power which is probably where the converter gets its power from
