Where should i buy my domain name from?

AlTech

Sup guys,

I'm gonna be getting a domain and I was wondering where I should buy it from.

Anybody got any suggestions?

I've heard of domain.com, GoDaddy and a few others but I'm not sure which I should use.

Thanks :).

If I'm going to be using Wix for my website design layout, Should I also just use them for the domain? Paying for a year of Wix Premium plan gives me a free domain (at the cost of $25 USD/month)

Idk,does that give you all of the unlocked features like a Membership option, slideshow etc...or is it just to create a domain?

All the bells and whistles BUT It's expensive :(.  And I don't know if I can pay that much per month or not BUT there's like no comparing Website hosting in the same category except for square space.

Well $25/month is quite expensive, but you can go to Weebly and get the Pro package for $12/month + 1 year free domain + latter you get to connect your own after this one expires, now i don't know what's the difference between a Wix $25 and a Weebly $12 but Weebly has its own $25 Business package

I use GoDaddy for all my domain names.

I have no complaints, but I don't use any of their services other than just the name itself.

I use Cloudflare for DNS, which is fantastic and would highly recommend.

And there are plenty of server hosts you can choose from, they're all about the same really. I use DigitalOcean.

If you choose to use DigitalOcean I can get you a free $5-$20 (can't remember how much exactly) on it with my referral link - And I get a $5 credit for it too. :)

They offer a $16/month plan but it has a 10GB bandwidth cap.

Been going with GoDaddy for the past 5 or 6 years alongside their Linux hosting (which was bundled for free with my domain, somehow).

Haven't had problems with customer support (except when Cloudflare messed up their centers, but that was resolved within 48h)

Also be warey of these "Free domains"

Make sure you actually own the domain, when you take out a subscription, otherwise you're locked into using them forever.

And domains are usually pretty cheap, all mine are about $10 a year on GoDaddy. So paying extra to get it for "free" isn't worth it.

Remember, nothing is ever free, they always get their costs back from somewhere. :)

I personally use Namecheap.

GoDaddy has a had a lot of hate in the past. Might have improved since then.

Feel free to PM for any water-cooling questions. Check out my profile for more ways to contact me.

Yeah, I've noticed a lot of people seem to hate on GoDaddy.

I've used them for 4 years now, I don't understand why there is/was a lot of hate against them.

Unless some of their other services are awful, and I've only ever used them as a registrar only?

Ohh right.

Hate against the company, not the product.

That's fair, I was just oblivious to any of that.

I might just go for Wix. I found another plan they offer which is $13/month so I'll probably go with that.

Kind of but not entirely. I knew I wanted one eventually but I never found a real reason I needed one.
