new tf2 demo recording

so if anyone didnt know. tf2 can auto record demos when starting a match in matchmaking. so i have the files, but where would they be and how would i convert them to watch them. since i record all matches now, ive found several hackers and want to keep track of them

You can only watch them in TF2 itself. It will not display as a video file. If you want you will need to record it with a gaming recording program

Last time I did this was a few years ago. Don't know if things have changed. But the way I did it (in engine, not sure if there are 3rd party utilities) is to render the demo into .tga files and stitch it together with virtualdub.

 

That wiki link says you can render it directly to a movie file though, so it sounds like a better idea than what I did.
