Need a new coolant

z97
Hello,

Just looking for ideas on a new coolant. Been using pastel white for the last 8 months and it's been good to me.
Anyone here used the aurora silver coolant for an extended period of time?
Also open to suggestions.
I like white, red or silver!

You should move this topic to the water cooling section if possible.

The Aurora 2 series is designed for longer term use but you still need to make sure the components in the loop are compatible so they don't readily clog, including the design of the loop so there will be no dead zones or areas with low flow rate.

Yeah.. I was reading up on that a bit. Really just looking for some real world stories.

ehhh it was hit and miss unfortunately... but some of that was not a surprise.  I tried it in 4 different configurations i think.

TCO on Overclock.net had a good experience with it.  He made it about 10 months with particles still present (the color was different though)

http://www.overclock.net/t/1286896/mayhems-users-club/13700#post_25221493

as far as I know the pc wasn't on 24/7 but he had a similar res setup to what I had the best success with (attempt #3)

http://www.overclock.net/t/1286896/mayhems-users-club/13700#post_25222393

My attempt #1 lasted about 3 months with 2x d5 set to 4.  The pumps were only on when the pc was on, which was about 8 hours a day

Attempt #2- literally lasted about 4 weeks with 1xd5 running at 100% for the same 8 hour intervals.

Attempt #3 was 2 loops (1 for cpu, 1 for gpu's)  I tried to make them as simple as possible and as similar as possible and each had its own d5 pump running on 5 for 8 hours a day.  The CPU (blue) loop fell out first after about 2 months and the GPU loop was still going pretty strong after 4 months.  The GPU loop had a bigger res with the inlet at the top facing down.  I think this helped aerate the loop a bit, which isn't ideal for a watercooling loop but I've heard some speculation from other forum users that this might help keep things suspended longer.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1286896/mayhems-users-club/13700#post_25222393 (same link from above)

I would've liked to keep the GPU loop going but I didn't want to leave the blue loop settled too long... and I was getting anxious to rebuild

edit: this build was using Mayhem's X1 concentrates with aurora booster so that is a bit different.

attempt #4-  This is dumb and shouldn't be taken seriously.  This loop has no chance of lasting more than a couple weeks.  I filled it last weekend and its still going strong though! haha  I just really wanted to see it and have been trying to video it but have had terrible luck since I'm no photographer.  I've been keeping this one on 24/7 in hopes it'll last a month, but I doubt it

I hope that helps!  Basically make a simple loop and try making your res inlet at the top of the res blowing water straight down.  I found that the shorter res in attempt #3 had issues with cycloning since it was so small and the inlet came in the side of the top.

That's more than expected. Truthfully I'm just going to make it look as flashy as I can until it's sold.

Imo it's worth it. But I enjoy my loop maintenance and don't mind cleaning it out 4x per year.

It'll look flashy, but to be honest, I'd feel sorry for the buyer if you don't disclaim anything about the fluid :)

The likely hood of me selling this thing for what I want is like slim to none lol. I've already cleaned and flushed my loop 3 times in the last 9 months so it's something I actively have done. Tubing was changed back in June whenever I did it prior.

Also, did you mix any distilled water with your coolant?

Attempts #1, 2 & 3 were concentrates so they were mixed with distilled water from Walmart. The current run was a premix but I was 1/2 litre short so I mixed in 1/2 litre distilled and some silver Aurora booster.

Hmmm I see. Is it a 50/50 mix do you know?

I think the concentrate was 150ml and you add 850ml for 1L total.  I might be a bit off on that though.  The premixes don't get anything added
