upgrading for a friend 800€ budget

Gnomo

Hey, after you helped me with my build in the other topic (which wasn't the final build, but helped a lot to get an overview) my friend wants to upgrade as well and has almost the same PC then I had earlier, but not the bucks for the same build.

His old PC can be found here http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/1554889

Asus P8B75-M with 16 GB DDR 3-1600, I5-3570K (non-oc) and a MSI GTX 670 with 2GB RAM

He wishes for the Enthoo Luxe Case from Phanteks and has then 800 bucks for the rest.

http://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/gPfH2R

This was my idea with OC of the i5, but maybe you also have an idea for upgrading.

He wants the case and nothing to shiny, no pink parts etc.

He is using it for games while frapsing them:
- 1920x1080
- high quality
- Overwatch
- World of Warcraft
- Hearthstone
- League of Legends
- Dota 2

and some video editing as hobby

I will build it for him and he wants it in about 2 weeks unless Zen is worth waiting

No one yet knows if zen is worth waiting for.

As far as your buddy pc is concerned I suppose I"d go with i5-6500 a motherboard taht suits his needs for io and RX 480.

i'd say oc the i5 and throw a 1070 or a 1080 in there

if OC is needed he needs a new cooler and MB, so no money for a 1080.The 1070 would be maximum in budget. But for high quality in FHD a 1080? :S

No! Not a 1080! The i5 bottlenecks it in every single instance!

For a 1080, get an i7

A guy was able to get a 5820K, mobo and RAM for just £300! If you found a similar deal, you would be lucky :D

If I were him, I'd just get the 1070 + a cheaper SSD and save for a Skylake i7, mobo and DDR4 memory.

PCPartPicker part list

Storage: Sandisk Ultra II 480GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (€119.99 @ Amazon Deutschland)

^The 850 pro is too expensive, he'll be fine with this at nearly half the price
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card  (€464.45 @ Amazon Deutschland)

^Cheaper and has higher clocks vs the MSI

^There will be a bit of bottlenecking with the 3570k w/ certain games, it's why he'll want to upgrade to an i7

Yea, but is an i7 possible for 800 bucks?
The SSD looks nice, but I also consider the 850 Evo, which seems to be better with 150 TBW?

He dislikes the orange part of the Gigabyte card. Sorry :( I know it is a great card.

The orange parts won't be seen anyway once you put the card in.

i7 with a 1070? Maybe for €900 and it's not even for overclocking.

There's nothing in the link.

Dunno why it changed the link.

I can't find an i7 with GTX 1070 as full build, with case, mb, ddr4, PSU and maybe even Storage ram etc for 900€

I am very interested myself, because it seems you know where to find such.

If he's gaming on 1080p then a GTX 1060 would be enough even with those games being recorded. I'd recommend using DxTory over Fraps as it doesn't eat too much fps.

€1050 is around the least he can spend on an i7/1060 with the Luxe case, 16gb of ram and 500gb ssd.

€1220 i7/1060 OC

€1150 i7/1070 non OC

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  (€338.70 @ Amazon Deutschland)

CPU Cooler: Scythe Mugen 4 PCGH-Edition (SCMG-4PCGH) (€42.13)

^I'd recommend the Cryorig H5 (€45) mainly for the aesthetic, they're both very good price/performance coolers
Motherboard: MSI Z170A SLI PLUS ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  (€129.44 @ Amazon Deutschland)

^If he picked this thinking of adding another 1060 in the future then he won't be able to cuz 1060's don't support SLI

^The ASUS Z170-A is a better mobo for just €12 more, cut costs by getting a cheaper ram

If he picked the motherboard thinking of doing SLI in the future he's not going to be able to cuz the 1060s don't support SLI.
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory  (€85.89 @ Amazon Deutschland)

^3000Mhz won't make any difference in gaming compared to a 2133. If he's not okay with the minimum then get 2400 for under €70
Storage: Crucial MX200 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (€85.11 @ Amazon Deutschland)

^This SSD is too expensive, mainly cuz it's being replaced with the newer MX300's that have higher capacity (275gb instead of the usual 240-250gb)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB ARMOR Video Card  (€329.00)

^again too expensive for what it offers, if they're under €300 then maybe yeah

^the cooler looks nice but clock speeds aren't impressive and has NO black plate

^if he's got no problem with those then go ahead
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe ATX Full Tower Case  (€160.00)
Power Supply: be quiet! Power Zone 650W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  (Purchased For €0.00)

^Yes to the G1's over the MSI armor. arguably MSI has the better cooler(their red twin frozr's i can definitely vouch for) but it's like 1-3 degrees difference + a lot of factors come into play (case, fans, room temp, etc)

It has the back plate and the cooler is more important then the clock speed. Even the FE would be enough, because first he wanted to buy that.

^The FE's are more expensive and don't OC good as the aftermarket variants - don't go for those unless he really favors aesthetics over performance and cooling

So he would like to have those two

when he sold his old stuff. I think this is ok? Even if he bought them for to much.

CPU Cooler: Scythe Mugen 4 PCGH-Edition (SCMG-4PCGH) (€42.13)

Motherboard: MSI Z170A SLI PLUS ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  (€129.44 @ Amazon Deutschland)

^^^I would strongly recommend the Asus Z170A, it has better OC capabilities (paired with a better cooler ofc)

^^^that MSI board is usually around 110-120 and not worth it for €130
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory  (€85.89 @ Amazon Deutschland)

^^^In terms of RAM, brands don't matter. It's usually the speed/timing&aesthetics that matter over w/c brand

Crucial Memory link: https://geizhals.eu/crucial-ballistix-sports-lt-white-dimm-kit-16gb-bls2c8g4d240fsc-a1320337.html

^white rams cuz they complement the aesthetics of the mobo, or just stick to something black

^^The White fits great and would be taken, when the RAM is good!

^Haven't heard of any complaints about them being bad, >brands don't matter when it comes to RAM (unless it's never heard of)

He thought he is great and bought all this himself today :/(including Z170A from Asus and the Crucial Memory, but the pcgh scythe because his local shop couldn't get the H5) for about 670€.
and the case for 200€

So he needs a SSD and a gpu.

Spoiler

Storage: Crucial MX200 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (€85.11 @ Amazon Deutschland)

^^^The MX300's are cheaper, also: http://ssdboss.com/ssds/Crucial-MX300-vs-Crucial-MX200

^^^If you want a better SSD then get the Samsung 850 EVO for a just a bit more

Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB ARMOR Video Card  (€329.00)

^again too expensive for what it offers, if they're under €300 then maybe yeah

^the cooler looks nice but clock speeds aren't impressive and has NO black plate

^if he's got no problem with those then go ahead
^^the alternative was the gigabyte g1, but the orange parts bothered him, he wants a cool card where these two were best in cooling from tests we looked up.
Can you recommend the gigabyte g1 1060 instead?
