4-pin power supply on 8-pin motherboard?

Go to solution Solved by SLIClocker,

I have ran a 4pin in an 8pin board before and it worked completely fine for me. Not saying it will work for you. But for me it was a miracle!

All the +12v pins on the connector are connected together, same with the 0v. More wires mean less voltage drop over them for a given current. If the PSU is a decent one, then one of them dodgy 8 to 4+ molex adaptors will probably be allright to use.

This was brought to my attention as you cannot recommend PSU by brands (unless it's Seasonic or SuperFlower).

Seasonic: Any

EXGA: B2, G2, GS, GQ, P2, T2

Superflower: Any (as of my knowledge of their PSUs)

XFX: Any but their XT line of PSUs

Corsair: RMx, RMi, AXi, AX, HXi, CXM (as long as they are the new ones with a grey and white label).

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

I know, but even if you buy a Corsair VS, it's not going to blow up in your face like a deer PSU would :D

*cough cough* VS PSUs are worse than the original CX PSUs and they are 1 word...junk...so a VS will blow up if you stress it enough ;)

But it won't blow up at 1% load like a generic firecracker would... (that was my point)

Well my experience with my EVGA 430W 80+ white has been good actually, fully stressed 7950 mining and a 2300 folding, didn't blow up when I ran it 24/7 for a month :D

Still I don't recommend it to other people.

I am not saying that I would recommend a VS PSU to anyone... My friend wanted a budget PSU and told him to get a Seasonic one instead of the VS he had originally chosen.... But they will not start a fire the moment you plug them in...
