Nvidia's Ansel has "borrowed" a lot of code from modder.

Marty McFly Modding is known for his contribution to aesthetics mods for the GTA Series of games, such as ENBseries mods, it has made GTA IV and San Andreas look completely different, not to mention other games that other modders have made similar visual upgrades (with proper credit) using his code as a base.

He has developed code for various effects to be added in games, and nvidia apparently borrowed a bunch of code, without asking, nor giving credit, as he says himself.

While it's an honour to be apprechiated by such a big company, they could at least drop some credits like we do

The thing is especifically about the MasterEffect

There are a lot of variables and code matching his previous work, wich is under Intelectual Property Licenses. Even the comments on the code are the same, he recodnized his own code.

You can also check the similarities for yourself.

Under the folder
"C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Ansel\ShaderMod\" and try to find variable names in ReShade.fx of MasterEffect.

Nvidia hasn't responded to this yet.

Update:

Marty McFly Modding updated the post and said it all was sorted. The code will be changed and he will be credited.

Not sure why it has been sweeped under the rug, still not that nice of a move from Nvidia.

Marty McFly Modding Facebook's page post about it:

If true this is just more shoddy business by Nvidia. How hard is it for a big company like them to pay their employees to develop their own code?

If true, I imagine it was one of their developers that was too lazy or couldn't figure it out himself so he decided to "borrow" some code.

Well even with the 30 buck thing the 970 was likely nvidia's most successful GPU they've made, so that doesn't dissuade anything, also the founders stuff likely still netted more money than what would have happened without it so don't think they care.

Has Apple NVidia ever really invented anything? PhysX bought, Ansel stolen, tessellation invented by ATI. Hair invented by AMD. I know NVidia wants to be the Apple of the GPU industry but seriously..

Talk about gross over simplification. One effect in all of Ansel does not equate to Ansel being stolen.

Nvidia no credits... Reminds of MrNightmare videos, which he later realized he had to give credit to users that presented him the stories, otherwise hed get copyrighted.

I'd love it if this were a complete coincidence because those are always funny to me, but it's probably not.

The fuck Nvidia?

dont forget they bought 3dfx who had SLI. And yes i know its not exactly the same thing but maybe nvidia needed something from 3dfx tech to get their SLI off the ground

Team red FTW? What we really need is another player, which we haven't seen in a long (LONG) time.

What's the problem? He released free, unlicensed software basing himself on someone else's game, then he expects to be asked for permission to use it? "Their legal armies would crush down on us"? What? If nvidia released open source software it would be so people are able to use it. There is no other reason to do that. There is NO legal basis to attack nvidia for doing this, nor would there be any if it were the other way around. It would perhaps have been nice of them to credit the original creators, but they are under no legal obligation to do so. Not that slapping a modder's nickname in the code somewhere would have tangibly benefitted anyone, aside from the modder's pride.

All of their gpu architectures. Unlike Apple, who uses other companies' cpus and gpus, nvidia does not. There can be fundamentally different ways to implement a seemingly identical function, which is the case in most of the things you mentioned.

Wow... This is a new low for the company.

I can forgive everything else, but how do you justify stealing other peoples' work? How?

EDIT: The Facebook post has been updated.

Quote

[EDIT] Update and conclusion on the Ansel thing: I talked with some guys from Nvidia and especially the lead developer of Ansel, it's all sorted out. It was a result of some testing, basically leftover code; the next Ansel update will have some code removed and me credited, so it's all fine now. I have seen that someone posted this on reddit, probably in an attempt to start a shitstorm or something, don't do that. It's not a big thing really and Ansel is no commercial product so case closed then

The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

I wasn't wrong. It's extremely rare that I am. I provided sources as well. Different devs can disagree. Further, we now have confirmed discrepancy from Twitter about he use of the pre-release 1080 driver in AMD's demo despite the release 1080 driver having been out a week prior.

You apparently haven't seen his responses to questions on YouTube. He is very condescending and aggressive in his comments with which there is little justification. He acts totally different in his videos. I don't necessarily care for this content style and there is nothing really unique about him or his channel. His endless dick jokes and toilet humor are annoying as well.

ATI is AMD. AMD bought and acquired ATI in the mid 2000's (2006 to be exact).

So the last big player in GPU's was 3DFX. They were actually bought by NVIDIA in 2002, but NVIDIA only bought them for some IP and technologies, and essentially just shut the company down.
