Wouldn't the simple solution be to hang the cable from a tether on the roof?  Kind of like the pressure washer hose at the car wash.

 

I applaud your efforts but at no time did your combination of parts ever look light!

That laptop looks like a G751-JY. I am under the impression that it has the internal graphics disabled. What was Linus saying when he was talking about the thunderbolt port using the onboard gfx?

So, without seeing the end of this, let me see if I understood it correctly...

Instead of having a bulky long cable tether running to the docking station you want to replace it with a shorter bulky tether cable going to the Thunderbolt splitter (that sits on your head?), which is powered by a power bank (that sits on your back?), and finally a light cable going to the Laptop? I'm not sure where the laptop is supposed to be.

 

If it's supposed to be another "things go wrong when Linus executes his brilliant idea" video - that's spot on. But I kind of fail to see what were you even trying to achieve here.

Honestly I think it's more about not getting bound up in the cable at this point.

Linus, the vive now comes with a thinner lighter cable

 

You should do a video putting up a pulley system on the roof and a self winding reel next to the pc for the perfect vr setup where no cables interfere at all

 

Just off the top of my head you would probably need

 

  • a clip on your back
    • leaves slack for you head to move  so that the vive wouldnt be pulled off your head
    • pulls the cable from your back not from you head which would be less noticeable
  • 2 pulleys,
    • one above you running to one on the wall
    • these would need to be big or the wheel would have to release so that you could run the cable ends through it
  • one self winding reel for the wire,
    • I would use a spring loaded hose reel and just wrap the wire around it
  • a clip near the reel
    • so that you dont pull the wire right out of the pc
  • one really really long new vive slim wire or an extension for one

the reel winds up extra slack automatically but if you do need extra slack all you have to do is walk farther and you pull the wire with you

Hope that helps. I was hoping the Ravpower bank was a bit bigger, say 40 or 50 Ah. I might've bought it then.
