Will A FX - 8300 bottle neck a GTX 1060?

Im building a friend a gaming PC and we keep debating that the FX 8300 will bottle neck a GTX 1060 I keep saying it wont though he still wants and i5-6400 though since he is paying more for that he'll have to downgrade to a 960 which is slower though he says dosent matter since the FX 8300 will bottleneck the 1060. So my question is will a FX - 8300 Bottle neck a GTX 1060?

Not really but if you were to upgrade the graphics card later on it would, as opposed to the i5 which will still be able to handle a better GPU. I'd still go with the i5 if he's going to keep the PC for a while and upgrade it in the future.

No, a FX 8300 series processor is more than enough for a GTX 1060

Yeah, AMD CPUs have bad core performance, and i5 or i7 would perform better in gaming.

I dont believe it will very much, although the i5 is of course better.

he's gunna be sticking with 1080p so he really wouldnt need to upgrade much in the future and when he does he can upgrade the CPU to a FX 9500

Yes any FX will bottleneck a 1060 if the settings are low enough and the game is cpu bound enough.  You have to factor in use case.  All CPUs will bottleneck GPUs given the right use case, though that use case isn't a likely scenario and would be fabricated entirely for the purpose of doing so.  This question cannot be answered without knowing what they're going to do with it.   That being said, I wouldn't buy an FX at all.  AM3/+ is a very old platform at this point.  Also - why not consider i5 + RX 470, 480 or gtx 1060/3gb?

1080p? yes, there will be a bottleneck.

I would say go for the i5 and a 470 tbh, if you can't get a 1060.

Would it be recommended to wait for AMD's new Zen processors?

Zen looks to be pretty promising.  Even if it's just to cause the used 4th gen and earlier intel core series to drop in value so pretty reasonable used stuff becomes more attainable.

I wouldn't bother to wait. They are said to launch around end of October, and these will be the enthusiast 8 core ones. The consumer processors with 4 cores will be out at the start of 2017.

I had a 8320 with a 980ti it didn't bottle neck in games like justcause 3 and planet side, but in games like arma 3, gta 5, crysis 3 I saw huge framrate jumps when I got a 6700k ( with the same gpu) it depends on the game but I would never go with a fx series again
