Does anyone else have bad experiences with Gigabyte motherboards?

nj4ck

I was trying to build a PC at work yesterday, only to have my day ruined by a dead Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5p. This is the third time I've had a Gigabyte motherboard be dead on arrival, and I'm starting to wonder if this is a little more than coincidence. Does Gigabyte have shitty quality control, or am I just exceptionally unlucky? I still hear people berating Asrock for crappy QC, but I've never had a dead Asrock board and now I've had three dead Gigabytes. Any thoughts/experiences?

Weird how so many people have never had an issue. I've only ever ordered 3 Gigabyte mainboards (I usually use Asus and Asrock), and all three of them were dead on arrival.

I've used one Gigabyte board, the H97-WIFI in an office build for a family member. It was solid, especially considering that I forgot standoffs. Still going after about a year and a half.

I do however think that Gigabyte makes some of the ugliest motherboards around.

Project White Lightning (My ITX Gaming PC): Core i5-4690K | CRYORIG H5 Ultimate | ASUS Maximus VII Impact | HyperX Savage 2x8GB DDR3 | Samsung 850 EVO 250GB | WD Black 1TB | Sapphire RX 480 8GB NITRO+ OC | Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV ITX | Corsair AX760 | LG 29UM67 | CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate | Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum | HyperX Cloud II | Logitech Z333

Benchmark Results: 3DMark Firestrike: 10,528 | SteamVR VR Ready (avg. quality 7.1) | VRMark 7,004 (VR Ready)

Other systems I've built:

Core i3-6100 | CM Hyper 212 EVO | MSI H110M ECO | Corsair Vengeance LPX 1x8GB DDR4  | ADATA SP550 120GB | Seagate 500GB | EVGA ACX 2.0 GTX 1050 Ti | Fractal Design Core 1500 | Corsair CX450M

Core i5-4590 | Intel Stock Cooler | Gigabyte GA-H97N-WIFI | HyperX Savage 2x4GB DDR3 | Seagate 500GB | Intel Integrated HD Graphics | Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 | be quiet! Pure Power L8 350W

all different. The first one was a Z87 mATX (can't remember exact model), the second one was a Z97 ATX board and now this one.

Tell that to my Z170X Gaming 7.  ?  ?

I think it looks sexy. lol  Works great too so far as I can tell.

I will admit that the Gigabyte B85M-DS3H-A in my secondary desktop does look a bit fugly.  Haven't had any trouble with that either btw.

^This.

So. Much. This.

I don't know what's wrong with them, but the vast majority of their mobos just seem so ugly to me...

Nah, I think that board looks ugly. The glossy plastic and the garish "G1 GAMING" branding kills it for me I'm afraid.

Why must you knock my ice cream cone out of my hand?  ?

What *do* you think looks good?  ? (I realize you have a right disagree but still...)

I have an Gigabyte X99 UD3P, overall it has been pretty good but I did have some issues with it and a PS4 controller.

Basically anytime I had my PS4 controller plugged in my system would refuse to boot into windows 9 out of 10 times.

The mobo splash screen would show up but just at the moment when the mobo would transfer control from the bios to Windows the system would hang.

I tried countless troubleshooting and hardware configurations, I even replaced the CPU (5820k) and the mobo but still it would hang just before windows took over.

Once I narrowed down the issue to the PS4 controller being plugged in at startup the system has been just fine.

So you like emo motherboards do you?  lol

Partly joking.  That does look cool.   Though I think some blue accents on it would make it perfect.

I like my Gaming 7 because the white on it goes well with the black on it.  Also the white on my mb matches the white of my NZXT Phantom 240 case and all that goes very nicely with the blue accent lighting on the mb and my case fans as well as my blue corsair RAM.

Anyway, to each their own I say.  You like what you like and I like what I like and that's all matters.  ?
