The process has begun

DutchTexan

This thread is going to cover building my first ever PC. After several months, over half a year of planning, I am building my first Personal Computer. Before the mentioned months of planning, I knew next to nothing about computers. I discovered that things like GPU’s and CPU coolers existed and began the daily, religious practice of picking parts within the great pcpartpicker.com realm. After several picked and modified build choices, many of you can probably attest as witness, literally dozens of planning posts and stupid questions has aloud me to summarize a general list of parts and desires.

The true purpose of this thread is to have some of my homies back me up when I get into sketchy situations. Also, just for me to look back on and observe my progress. To get on with it, the reason I am building a computer is because my 2012 iMac leaves something to be desired. I would like to step into the world of gaming, more so than I already have. Currently, I continue to partake in Starcraft 2 after 3 years of solid competency. This game has allotted me the given of investing in gaming peripherals. So, without ado, here [screenshot of purchase] is what started my first PC build and really forced myself to commit to this journey.

Here is what I decided on:

Thanks! I will be buying an external optical drive and booting to a TV for the first time. Someone from work provided me a Windows 7 Professional Key

Just curious, why not the 212 EVO? You're pretty much buying the more expensive version of it anyways, and black fans are going to go better with the system than brown will.

I can’t remember where or what it was called, but I watched a video comparing liquid to air cooling. In the video the person also had a hyper 212 evo for comparison. The person eded up putting more money worth of Noctua fans on the cooler itself and the performance of the 212 eve increased by maybe 3% or so. The actual structure of the cooler is very impressive from what I saw in the video. A nail in the coffin was how much a equal performing liquid cooler would have cost. The final nail in the coffin was from an unboxing video I watched where the individual explained the quality and part support for life Noctua provides.

Originally, I wanted a higher end AOI liquid cooler. Then I ended up going for the 12s rather than the 14 or 15 because it was more than adequate and exceptional for the price.

Guess that makes sense. I have NF-S12A FLX fans on mine, but I got them for about $7 per so I guess I really don't have terribly much room to talk xD I haven't noticed a substantial performance difference between the stock fan and 1x Noctua fan tbh, but a lot has changed with my entire build since I had the stock fan on there (new case with much more optimized airflow, new overall cooler performing CPU, and better cable management.

Thanks though! Was just wondering why you picked a over b.

Yeah thats the main reason I went for a Noctua cooler because everyone says their fans are so good. I figured if they engineer the best fans than they could probably engineer the best air cooler too. I will find a link of that video later today. The I think it was Linus who added two $20 Noctua fans to a hyper 212 evo and the cooling performance didn't really change.

The cryorig H7 is probably all that I would have needed.

Oh that's something I can't wait to optimize. Cable management! What would you say is the hardest thing about building a computer?

Case came in Friday. The first immediate negative is the steel exterior; fingerprints show and stay on the case very easily, although it is not as bad as a screen on a phone. I already purchased some stainless steel wipes and they work excellent. My other first impressions are very solid and I love the case. Especially for $49.99! I will have to see how my first build goes to have a proper opinion.

You don’t have to help, I just reached out to.. acouple people.. who have helped me before :)

I will be building everything when the first group of parts come in. I ordered everything but a HDD, monitor, and GPU. I will also be buying an external optical drive to use my brand new Windows 7 pro OEM CD key.

My first boot will be to a tv with my keyboard and mouse plugged into the pc to see if it is all connected and if all the hardware works. What should I do after everything went right?Ive watched video where people go and change stuff in the bios and change their ssd to something 01 and they start overclocking their cpu, cpu and ram? How would I get into that or what is the procedure? When should I actually install the Windows Key?

I will be coming back to everyone if I have an issue that I don’t understand regarding how to troubleshoot if a piece of hardware is faulty, if that’s okay with y’all.

Parts should arrive Tuesday, I am just getting nervous. I would like to be prepared as possible. Oh and I will be doing the build on marble floor for anti static purposes, good?

Oh and I will be doing the build on marble floor for anti static purposes, good?

when my first build booted for the first time i installed windows then software and stuff. i didnt overclock my stuff for like a year later lol

one more thing just make sure you install windows on your SSD

I start at the CPU, find a good overclock on it then move to the RAM.

Get yourself set up with a monitoring suite, I like NZXT CAM. Don't use CAM to overclock your graphics card though. Use PrecisionX or Afterburner. All those are free.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Nope, it tells you what's happening with your computer. CAM tells you everything, but does use a bit of RAM. In game I like PrecisionX for its overlay, an overlay puts information on the screen so you can keep track of what's happening with your computer. The more information you have, the closer to your overclocking limit you can get. I'm pretty serious about knowing everything going on in my PC.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
