Adblock Plus says Facebook's decision to block ad blockers is 'anti-user'.

 

So its an ad blocking company calling a company which makes profits from ads that their move to block ad blockers is anti user...WHAT??

How on earth is fb supposed to make profits??

If people don't want ads, deal with it then, forcing stuff is usually a bad idea.

And they should be happy most of us are just using extensions, if companies keep fighting this we will grab to the "big guns" like a dedicated dns that does the job.

If adverts weren't full of crap, malware and scams (and facebook is a route of some scams that people don't know impacts a heavy cost on their mobile phone bills through weekly premium texts costing about £5 a go) then there wouldn't be any need for ad-blockers.

 

All of these advertising companies need to start giving a shit about the content they've been given to deliver to other internet users and screen it, and only then will people stop using ad blockers.

I agree online ads are definitely a problem.  That's great sites want/need to make money to support their continued operation or make running more worthwhile to site owners but it's a serious problem when ads are so easily made unsafe due to malware/viruses.

Advertising is a problematic revenue stream. It has great allure because of the minimal effort required to get running. But it mainly benefits only the advertisers.

 

Users in an ad-funded system have no collective buying power; if they boycott an ad-funded service due to annoying ad practices, it may cause that service to fail financially; but the ad company will not be incentivized to change because they can simply move on to other markets that users can't or won't abandon in protest.

 

And in the case of Facebook, this may be a red herring; as pointed out, they have other means of making money.
