The Extrion XV1 - My brother's PC build

 

STORY

I built this PC for my brother as a birthday present, his old Xbox 360 is pretty much obsolete by now and my mom has to use her laptop for CAD work, so we decided to build him a computer. I spent about $70 on the RAM and Wireless card for this, I also provided the Windows liscense, i3 4170, LEDs and the ThermalTake Core V21 from my last rig and a 500GB hybrid drive from my old laptop. I helped my parents order the GPU, PSU, and motherboard. Once the PSU and motherboard arrived I started building, I was afraid the graphics card didn't arrive in time (on the 24th of October, his birthday is the 25th) but the delivery guy put it in the mailbox instead of leaving it by the door. Anyway it's complete now, and he loves it.

PSU: Seasonic S12II 430B

in terms of used mobos in my area I see them going for about the same as low end new ones.

My parents are going to help me fund it due to my brothers birthday coming up soon (although we plan to build it and give it to him a bit earlier) and my mom uses her laptop for CAD so she doesn't like it when my brother is gaming on it when she needs to work.

If you plan to keep that DVD drive in there you're going to hope you can find a PSU that isn't very long front to back.

 

I was using a Ranger M case for my secondary desktop until I switched to a Corsair 88R so I know all too well how little space there is for the PSU and its cables in there.

 

I'm using a crap non-modular PSU that was long enough to make it so I had no option but to shove the PSU cables into the optical drive bay.

 

Where do you plan to shove all the PSU cables with a DVD drive in there?

Stuff them under/above the DVD drive or do some modding.

I'd be interested to see what you come up with to mod the case if you do.

 

How did you put that window on the side?

 

You said in your initial post that the ram you're going to use is in your rig?  Do you mean you plan to take some of your RAM out to put in this build?

 

Will you still have enough RAM after you take some out?

Yeah, I'll have 8GB, I'm going to buy more after I give him some though.

 

Me and my dad cut a piece of plexiglass and cut the side panel then attatched the plexi using silicone.

Wouldn't it be simpler to just buy your brother some RAM in the first place?  (Instead of taking some out of your rig and then replacing it.)

 

 

Why aren't your parents paying for this?  Or helping at least?
