This may only concern people with case 2.


What happened to me: I was living in a house until i had to move to another house which was 500 km away in another city. So i moved to this new house/city. After some days i started noticing something odd,that i have case 2. What changed between my old house and new one.

 

These are the possibilities:

I messed up my pc somehow during shipping

Gpu artifacting

Electricity

Electromagnetism

 

But I happened to know a thing or two about power being an electrical engineering student. So I checked some basic stuff in power and found out about Neutral-Earth voltage being high. After I got it reduced(not fixed completely as in my country power company is corrupt and they don't listen to people) somehow the intensity of the issue got reduced by like 10%. Still there are several other power quality issues in this new house like flickering lights randomly (once every hour or once in a whole week/month). I have noticed another thing that is very strange/interesting that whenever these lights flicker in my house my laptop screen flickers with it even when my laptop is not plugged in (but noticing this flicker is very hard as it's for split second). This is very odd and this shows that I might be dealing with something related with electricity and EMI.

 

Recently I have noticed that lights also dim whenever i plug some appliance in (Harsh45 and KaeptnKnoppers pointed it out in nvidia forum) . So I tested with a multimeter and found out that the voltages were low to begin with and on top of that whenver i turn something on in my new house voltage drop drastically. Voltages in my old house were 230v-245v and voltages in my new house are 197v-223v. This shows in my new house there is something wrong with power.

 

In short in this new house there are many power quality issues(half of which i don't know as i don't have an oscilloscope). So i don't know which one caused this issue for me.

Right now, I don't suffer from this problem, but I did before (as described).

When I suffer from it most games are so ugly I don't bother playing them anymore (even 2D games look bad too)...

Ok so I installed AC 3 on my old system. Guess what, the same problem is there as well... 

What are the similarities between these two systems? Literally none, old one is intel/nvidia/win7, new one is AMD/win10. And as I said a few pages back, I distinctly remember having the issue on an even older system, about 10 years ago. The only thing these systems have in common is the wall socket they used. Now I know that "dirty power" is mentioned in the OP as impossible to cause this, but what else could it be? Isn't graphical corruption the first symptom of GPU not getting good power? Regardless of all the filtering the power goes through in the computer, some interference can certainly still get through. AMD support also asked me if I maybe undervolted the card.

I tried a different socket, but it didn't help. For all I know the new card managed to survive these conditions for one week (because it worked fine at first) and now it's irreparably ruined.

Oh I am pretty much going to quit. I paid $1000 for nothing.

If I were in your place I would check hardware if you have a problem on Linux too.

I don’t know how many times I’ve said that I built numerous (Brand New) (All Parts) computers over and over again and the image quality is the same old garbage.

Its not hardware related if I’ve built new computer after new computer,  some amd and some Nvidia, some Ryzen and the rest intel.  

 

4K monitors, Ultrawide monitors, 1080p monitors, 4K TVs, 1080p TVs,  doesn’t matter.   HDMI, DP Doesn’t matter, still the same old crap.

 

Even brought a PC to my shop in another town and it performed the same.

I also bought a brand new pre-built PC from cyber power to see if a PC tested at a company would perform different at my place,  It looked visually terrible Iike the rest,  refunded it thankfully..   Was my intention all along...

 

I’ve done what I believe is about all I can do.

I’m playing on console right now,  too distracting to see a game which should look good look like complete garbage.  In most cases my PS4 pro and Xbox One X look better even if they have a poor framerate.

My bet is something in setting we can't manage to set up. 


Biggest exemple for me, about a messed game i can't play because of it: dragon age origin. Totaly unplayable.

You think using an AVR can solve all power quality issues? It's just there to increase or decrease voltage. But as you said you only have issues in few games and not outside of games so i don't know if power is a problem in your case. That's why i said it should only concern people with case 2.

IMO if you have case 2 you can't ignore it. On the other hand i don't know much about case 1 as i don't have it. My pc is collecting dust now, i just turn it on to capture some footage of this issue and that's it. I am too afraid to plug my console in this new house as in my case i am 90% sure it's power. So i can't game anymore.

For me the weirdest part of this issue is that I played all games fine, not a single flicker or artifacting/shimmering/blinking/jagginess in any of the games. On Dec. 31 I installed RTX 2080 Ti and then issues starts. What is even more weird, why did all the issues also appeared on other 6 unrelated PCs I tested? My secondary PC and laptop never had any issues or flickering, but after I installed RTX 2080 Ti (ONLY on my main gaming PC), issues started to appear on them too. Does RTX have some kind of bad aura? Because I don't know what else to say, lol.

Just here to report that I'm also affected. Everything was working fine, until it didn't. Grainy Picture, Shimmering and stuff like that. Anti Aliasing is not working, doesn't matter what I change. Tried different monitors, changed PSU and even brought the PC to a friends house. Nothing worked, still the same crap. Kinda getting frustrated, since I'm seeing posts from over 5 years ago with no solutions. This does not only affect games but Windows itself too. Jaggy edges and stuff, all over chrome and my desktop. Seems like AMD and NVIDIA is not interested in solving this, since it's not GPU related? -_-

Same here,  I came upon this issue one day straight outta the blue and then every other PC I built or had laying around showed the same symptoms from that day forward...  sad, frustrating and mind-boggling... .. .

I agree.   I did notice something yesterday,  when updating windows 10 it shows the update percentage on that blue screen where it configures the update and restarts your PC 3 times I believe,  Well,  after the first restart all the text on the screen was perfect, 4K crisp and looked exactly the way it should have all along,  then after the second restart it went back to choppy blurry text and same with the third restart.  The login screen wallpaper is blurry and ugly again.

 

Its odd how for about 10 seconds my screen looked fine and then back to crap.  Whatever is causing that screen change right there is undoubtedly the underlying issue,  I believe.

EDIT:

This is whole jagged shimering lines and textures are related to  GPU drivers and Windows 10.

I think there is some bug between Windows and GPU drivers something that we all have overseen but what!That is true question now!

We'll all be laying in a grave, this problem exists for over 5 years now x) No hope left in me

You know what we were unable to solve this issue for so long because we had many software experts here but very less(maybe none) power quality or hardware expert here. You can't fix something with software if the culprit is hardware or the power that it runs on. You can tweak it with software that's what people were doing with taa, super sampling etc. 

 

Irony is that none of these mega companies are interested. They should send a team to our house if not all of our's then one of our house, which should include Software,Electronics and Electrical Engineers/Experts.

Can you revert that update? It is possible that the update pushed the gpu to it's limit while installing something or after that update gpu is supposed to be more optimised but in our case utilising more gpu might be damaging it as it pull's more power. I know this sound odd but we are dealing with something that is odd.  

 

My Assumption: About linux some might see a little improvement as in Linux it's possible that gpu drivers are not optimised as much as they are in windows. So in Linux it might not be utilising gpu to full extent. That could also be a reason why some people saw little improvement installing Linux

No, it can't be just Windows 10. I tried on PC with Windows 7, but there was no difference, all problems persisted.

 

Maybe it has something to do with Windows synchronization? You know, when it synchronize settings between PCs, perhaps it breaks something? But, I don't use Microsoft account, so I don't know.

Windows 7 is very much like windows 10 now.

That's very interesting as these can be the possibilities(these are just few as there can be many possibilities)

 

1. Something bad coming from power company's side during the time you experience this OR there is always something bad in power but the components are starting to show symptoms now.

 

2. If you have a transformer that's shared between all neighbours, maybe one (or all) of the neighbour runs something that causes something bad to appear in power for rest of the neighbours.

 

3.  Maybe something bad in wiring and if the wires are touching something outside through wind or something else, this issue appears.

 

4.  This reminds me, as some people said that they replaced components in pc and problem disappeared, maybe the power got fixed after damaging the component. Also some people said problem reappeared after some time. Very likely that whatever bad in power, is appearing and disappearing for some people and for others it's always there.
