If you enjoy electronic music get AT M50's

If you enjoy rock then get grado sr60's

These are both good headphone choices although the m50's have the upper hand when it comes to bass

M50's are the gateway drug for headphones. I bought mine in the fall, got 2 more and am currently shopping for more.

Unfortunatly 100 euro's won't quiet stretch to audiophile stuff however there is a Chinese studio company that sell studio. Monitors which definatly are audiophile grade and sell for £40 so in the region of 55 or so euros which are on headfi.org as i do not remember the name and you can buy over amazon just one note that they are openback headphones so they leak noise but sound amazing with deep accurate lows and nice highs but not so bright that people don't like that degree of accuracy of treble notes

One product:

Beyer Dynamic DT 770 Pro 250Ohm version. Audiophile, over ear, closed back amazing frequency response headphones. You cannot go wrong, although they are only slightly over $100. Great thing is as well that you can buy any replacement parts from beyer, its great!

And by replacement parts, in the last 6 years i've owned them, i've only replaced the ear pads once, which are the grey bits around the ear for comfort and seal, because I use them so damn much! xD

Shure SRH 440's. I'd avoid ATH-M50's, fast becoming the Beats by Dre of the semi-audiophile world. Not the best bass and not the greatest sounding compared to Shure or Grado, not bad but, nothing too special.

Stretch to €150 - 200 for the better Shure 840's or better sennheiser types.

Slightly over $100? Where? Lowest I find is $170 from B&H Photo Video which is about 140 Euro. Plus the 250Ohm version are harder to drive without an amp(Googling shows OP's card has an amp, but I'm not sure how well it would drive).

Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

Also to OP. would you prefer a closed or open headphone? Closed meaning it would block sound passively(normally better/more bass too), or Open meaning you can hear outside sounds and have better "soundstage" or positional hearing(like is the guy shooting to the left in front of you or behind you). Sense you want bass I'd recommend M50s for simplicity's sake. Or the V Moda Crossfades, though they are ON ear not Over ear.

These. The old ones in the background are 20 yrs old, and they worked until last Fall. Bit over the budget, but they are awesome!

As ccx90 stated, 100 € won't really cut it for the audiophile experience.

But closest in review for the budget would be "Audio-Technica ATH-M50S" or the "Grado SR80i Headphones".

A headphone with USB connectivity would also be to recommend as you're soul use is infront of your PC.

usb is digital. Very poor compared to analog. Especially with a proper soundcard.

Thanks for pointing it out, i did mean headphones using a buildt in soundcard using USB connectivity.

DT990/DT770/DT880 or SRH 840 or SRH 440 or AKG Q701 or Sony V6 or M50's or M-audio Q40's or... the list can go on.

I own the ath m50's the ath AD700 and the next headphone I am thinking of buying are the WS55 or the WS77

@6:45 he revises his review with the increased burn in time. why he did a review with little burn in really bothers me the WS77 is brand new there aren't even any reviews in Japanese or on headfi just yet.

I love my M50's when compared to the 700's I can really tell how 'accurate' the m50's sound is but I want extra punch and I look forward to trying out the double chamber technology in the WS55 or WS77.

the M50 is a great choice as well as AKG 271 for accurate sound which is fun but if you are looking for punchier cans look toward the audio technica WS line or sony's XB line. note if you are looking at the XB line know that the monster truck tire design is being phased out for the sleeker on ear design.

Be careful with M50's, they can ruin your fav song once you hear all of it o.O

ATH-M50 is a solid recommendation, but I don't think they are the only alternative in the range. What kind of music do you listen to? Do you wish to play games with these as well.

The Takstar Hi 2050 is a solid recommendation that needs to be out there regardless.

yeah, this is turning out to be a big commercial for M50's so I'll list off a few things that I dislike about them

earpads are pleather. while it is there and made of that material to isolate sound and in a way help with bass it does get sweaty and fatiguing after a while. (easily swapped with other material)

40 or 44mm drivers. I love the sound that comes from these cans but it does lack the bottom end extension. I wonder if it is possible to get a bit more bass without sacrificing the mids though. but it keeps me wondering what they could do with a bigger driver.

kind of sharp highs. in most applications I am not bothered by it but every once in a while you get a track that hits that right frequency and it is a bit sharp.

after I get my next "bassy" headphone which would be a WS55, WS77 or an XB600 I'll be looking at getting cans from another manufacturer like AKG or V-moda, of which, I think the vmoda M80 is in his price bracket if I am not mistaken.

and in parting here's a little M50 porn

the highs are a tad sharp

The DT770 from BeyerDynamic is an amazing headphone, as is the AT M50. However my personal headphone of choice is the Sennheiser HD 380 Pro. Absolutely bombproof construction, really accurate sound, and about as close to a flat frequency response as you can get from that kind of budget.

They may not look great, but for the money, you can't get much better sound IMO.
