Very interested in "hacking"

So since I was young, ive always enjoyed movies about cyber situations. Hacking, servers, ect.. And recently its been real annoying because I have no clue how to get into any of it. And I dont mean hacking as in the negative connotation that comes along it. 

I really just want to learn everything, its literally fascinating to me. Any ideas or anyone take me under their wing? I have a lot of free time so im willing to learn as hard as it may be.

Find exploits and use them to your advantage. Dick around until you find something the other guy didnt. I got admin rights on my school's network in a week, and it was down for several after. Why? Because I'm a dick.

Just doing things. I discovered a hidden admin account while playing with privileges on the shared drive. Discovered an "exploit" if you will, and it gave me the usernames of every account on the network. So I found an unused admin account, tried guessing passwords, and I was in!

 

PS, don't use "password" as a default password ;)

Only do it for ethical reasons as the US laws were written a long time ago so $15,000 of damage gets you 20 years in prison and a $100K fine. To put that in perspective. Mess up a companies file system and they loose $50,000 that day. If I were you do some bounty hunting. Google pays big money for bugs that you find and tell the about. Companies also pay people like this to test their security. Best way to learn. Trial and error. There is no boot on how to hack as it changes every day with patches and so on. Once you know the root of how computers function you can play around. But true hacking now days is just social engineering

If you are serious all you will find on Youtube is script kiddy stuff. You either have to go to forums, shadier ones and look around. It will probably all look foreign but look up everything you don't know. But honestly you can only do so much with knowledge that is already out there. There is no book on how to hack. Like recently this year some kids found a HUGE UNIX exploit when instead of entering the password you just hit the space bar 13 times.

We dont teach about hacking around here. Its not what the LTT community is about. Even if you have no intentions to use it to be harmful, the methods CAN be used for harmful purposes and thus we unequivocally do not help with it here.

We see threads like this everyday. @MartinWake was correct that we do not like these threads here. If you are interested in something, then be more specific than "hacking". This is a technology forum so thus Hacking to us is trying to do things with technology that is generally frowned upon.

Instead of bashing from the start. Ask. It takes as much time to be negative as to be positive and just ask. 

If I knew what the specifics were I wouldve asked what I wanted to learn. Theres a reason I said "ethical hacking" and "not the negative side". Because clearly im not knowledgable on the topic and needed a place to start.

Pick up some books. If you are interested in hacking webpages, get information on Apache and IIS. If you want to get into the school's Cisco router, you should probably learn that. It's not like the movies, and you actually have to learn the systems you want to target other than running someone else's scripts. If you brute forced your way into the schools Cisco router for example, you wouldn't even know what to do at a command line without learning the IOS.
