Is DVI-D obsolete?

I have a nice 144hz 1080p monitor with DVI-D and HDMI and the only way for me to get 144hz to my monitor is through DVI-D since HDMI is capped at 60Hz. Is it time for an upgrade?

Hopefully, all display interfaces except DisplayPort will become obsolete soon. DisplayPort 4 lyf. 

 

DVI is generally becoming less and less relevant, but I wouldn't call it obsolete yet.

Not really. It's been able to push 144Hz at 1080p far longer than HDMI has.

Well HDMI still has one or two advantages, such as the return audio channel.

1080p 144 Hz isn't any different over DVI than it is over HDMI or DisplayPort. So you don't need to upgrade simply to get rid of DVI. If you want something higher, such as 1440p 144 Hz or 4K, you'll need something better than DVI, but you won't gain anything from the same resolution/frequency with just a different connection type.

1. Hdmi Is what I love the most since all monitors have them, on the other hand I could buy adapter but cheap monitors have hdmi

I agree.  I'm still using one monitor with DVI, but my other 2 are DP, and my god I can't wait until I don't have to deal with DVI cables anymore.  The screws are just such a pain to work with.  Displayport has a much better locking mechanism.

You don't actually have to screw them in. In fact with VGA and DVI I expressly recommend not screwing them in because the connectors are quite robust already and if a strong enough pull does occur with the lock in place you can massively damage the mechanism (esp on laptops).

I tend to move my monitors around a lot, as they are on arms.  If I don't screw in the DVI connectors, they simply pop out.
