i7 4790K is too damn HOT!

Deus EX

i7 4790k running oc @ 4.6 ghz cooled with corsair h80i GT , the idle temp is 45c-48c and at full load maximum temp is 95c(no BSOD). I un-OC the cpu and the idle temp is 40c-45c when full load is 75c-80c , the case have 2 120mm intake front , 2 120mm exhaust top.. still I'm getting hot temp , I already replace the thermal compound and still the temp. is the same.. The outside ambient temp. is 31c and my room ambient temp is 35c ...
Is this normal ? or I should get another cooler? When I'm gaming I'm experiencing thermal throttling causing some fps drop..  based on the my room ambient temp. does the temperature is normal? I'm worrying that it will lessen the life of my cpu...
ps(can't afford AC because I'm poor)

Your ambient temps are pretty hot, so ye, that's normal. If your ambient was 25C with those cpu temps then that's a little hot. Also I'm curious what voltages are you putting for your vcore?

Your room is already 10C over normal, so those idle/ load temps when not overclocked seem normal. Also what do you expect from a 120mm radiator? there is only so much heat it can dissipate, and you are getting close to the limit with that OC

Drop your OC down a bit.  There is no need for you to run at 4.6ghz all the time unless you do some sort of professional task that absolutely requires that speed.

If you're poor as you say, this should be a no brainer.

Your room temps are high so you can expect 10 to 15c above what you find online. For example this is with 25c room temps:

This is for the 4770k but it shouldn't be as far off. You might have a bad sit so try to reapply thermal paste if you haven't done so. Also try to crank up your fan curve to be a lot more aggressive if you haven't done that.

Failing that your unit might be having the issue..

Get another cooler. I have a H80i GT as well and it performs bad compared to a high end air cooler like a Hyper 212 Evo. Plus your ambient temp is very high. If that get's lower, your CPU temps will be lower.

I would say air cooler. A CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo ,Cryorig H7 or Scythe Ninja 4

Any large tower cooler with multiple fans should do you well. Watercoolers are not competitive in the low end where they get beaten by cheaper air coolers. They only pull ahead when you go to 240mm or 360mm rads...

Noctua NH-D15 if it fits. It can be configured to be as short as 160mm tall. If it doesn't fit, something like the Cryorig H5 Ultimate would be perfect. Not sure there are really any AIOs worth your time at that price point.

The 212 family is not "high end", nor does it outperform an H80i. I'm not endorsing the H80i by any means, but if one has a budget of $100 and ambient room temps of 35C, there is literally no situation in which the 212 EVO, H7, Gammaxx 400 or anything in that class should even be in the conversation.

Well, 100$ won't get you far in terms of water cooling. You will at least need a 240mm radiator. And yes, atleast on Skylake a Hyper 212 performs better then an H80i. Once the fluid warms up to over 40°C my CPU temps are obove 70 while gaming. Testing it with my friends 212 Evo showed 65 max. Usually 55-60 with a 4,6Ghz OC on 1.344v.

$100 won't get you far for water cooling, no, but an NH-D15 outperforms plenty of AIOs, and it's less than $100.

Seriously, recommending a $30 "my first cooler" here is like having a guy walk onto your lot looking at a Mercedes and selling him a Yugo.

Performance speaks for itself. That´s all I can say. I tested it myself, also a Ninja 4 beat my H80. The NH-D15 is huge and might not fit into some cases.

It's 2mm taller than the 212. Any case that can fit an EVO can be made to fit a D15, aside from Mini ITX perhaps, but that's more a limitation of the motherboard assuming the case can handle it.

Maybe some RAM sticks might be to high. Like the ones with huge heat spreaders. Otherwise this might be a good choice.

Well, even if a massive air cooler like a Noctua NH-D15, BeQuiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 or Phanteks PH-TC14PE doesn't fit, there's still better options out there than a CM Hyper 212 Evo, certainly if the budget is €100...

212 Evo isn't close to high end air coolers. Its budget 120mm single tower cooler. Any 140mm single tower or 120mm dual tower beats it. Though I don't even think 120mm AIOs are worth their price in normal ATX cases.

Your temps are unusually high. What's the layout of your system cooling?

Make sure that the cooler is properly seated as well.
