Non-k CPU Cooling

keegzorr

Is It worth it to buy a new high end CPU cooler for a Non-k CPU?

I have a i5-4590 at 3.3GHz

Second question would It be worth It to use a higher end cooler right now on this CPU until I can afford a new CPU or just buy a new CPU and use the stock for a while?

Not really since you (probably) overclocking a stock cooler is fine

Not a "high end" one, no. A bit of a beefier one with better flow characteristics and a respectable sized fan? Sure.

Then you can set up custom fan profiles, and essentially just turn the fan off at idle.

You could always go with something cheap like a 212 Evo or a Cryorig.

I must say... I just tossed a H5 Ultimate on a 4790k and have been extremely impressed with it. I will be buying Cryorig again if I go air on anything in the future.

No experience with that chip. However I have a very early (1st gen i think) i5 that i scored for nix kicking around. This things a weapon, long as you can keep it cool! It happily runs 4ghz(like %60 oc) but even the IDLE TEMPS scared me with stock cooler, without getting close to max vcore for the chip.

Maybe newer i5's binned differently or this is a lottery winning chip, but if its the same, aftermarket all the way!
