Nvidia Titan XP has same FP64 and FP16 performance as GTX 1080

Nvidia announce Pascal Powered GTX Titan X

Quote

Nvidia Pascal Titan X will not feature faster FP64 or FP16 performance

The original GTX Titan GPU had a unique characteristic that made it popular for more than just gaming, it had support for Double Precision, FP64, compute, allowing people to access some huge amounts of compute performance at a price that is much lower than Nvidia's Tesla or Quadro GPUs.

With the release of the Maxwell Titan X that changed, with the Titan X having the same Double precision compute scaling/ rates as their GTX Gaming counterparts, taking away the attractive budget compute properties of the Original GTX Titan.

Now Nvidia has confirmed that the Pascal GTX Titan X will not feature increased FP64 and FP16 rates over GP104, making the Titan X an Ultra-powerful Gaming GPU and nothing more. While the Pascal GTX Titan X will offer best in class gaming performance when it launches, it will still come in at an eye-watering price of $1200 and leave the budget FP64 compute crowd without the "old style" Titan of their dreams.

Shame, $1200 for a gaming card that performs in compute tasks as well as the gtx 1080.

What I think:

They have just made a gaming focused GPU, and charged $1200. So the nvidia fanboys cannot defend this card. It is an overpriced gaming card. For double the cost of the gtx 1080, you get ~%30 more performance.

I'm not surprised, the titan x didn't make any sense, I didn't expect this to be any different. For anyone considering this, wait, there will probably be a 1080ti in the near future.

Yeah, I think it will be like the 780 ti. Where they wait for the AMD challenger or "titan killer" and then release the full gp102 gpu.

Makes and made piles of sense for 3d modelers using almost any render engine.
Cheaper vram and better performance at single precision than quadro's on some tests even.

Hopefully AMD has an answer to this.

It's not gaming focused it's ai focused

Also your spec sheet is mislabeled the 1080 has 2560 Cuda, the titan has 3584 (the bar shifted)

I feel like some of you guys are more surprised than you should be considering the 980 was only 30-35% behind the titanx (stock speeds for reference)

I really hope they just keep Z and X and just add letters as they move forward with their naming.  ZV or XV doesn't sound all that bad.  I do, actually sincerely hope we get a ZP - that'd be great for 4K, and a black version of the Z cooler would be nice.

Titan Z was a horrible overheating abomination which cost 3000$ for 2x1000$ Titans. Tinta ZP would have to be 3500$ for a hot mess...

the original one was a pretty good deal for "cheap" compute performance but thats the only card that has made any real sense ever...

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

IF that were true, nvidia would not release a $1200 gpu.
