Is the Skylake "bending" issue, really an issue?

Noctua released a statement awhile ago, and they said any cooler with the fan on that weighs less than 700g should be ok, but do those with heavier coolers (NH-U12S, U14S, D14, etc) on Skylake have any issues? My cooler (NH-U12S) weighs 758g with the fan installed, should I use it?

I'm not. Look it up - Skylake chips are much thinner than Haswell and prior and thus bend. It's an actual issue. But if you decide you can buy a new CPU, go for it.

Well I'm waiting for people who use heavier coolers with Skylake to give me their experience. I have already out the U12S on a 6600K no issues for a few months, but I just want to make sure I'm not treading a thin line...

 

It also seems the article that reported it in the first place used a drill to secure the cooler, and every other site just copied and pasted that article to begin with.

There are no people who use extremely heavy coolers beyond the ones who got burned - most were sensible and didn't do dumb shit

Well idk, mine is a little above what Noctua recommends. Thing is they also said none of their compatible coolers have this issue. There are spring screws on the NH-U12S which probably does relieve a lot of pressure.

Skylake bends MUCH more easily than haswell. Look at the difference

I believe the issue is when a cooler is screwed on too tight. You have to be a lot more careful with Skylake since the wafers are thinner.

If it's loose you have the same effect - it sags and bends the CPU

Just installed it. Boots up no issue, temps are in the low 30s in the BIOS. I screwed it in as tightly as the spring screws would allow, until my screwdriver kept on coming off instead of "screwing" the screw.

From what I remember, actual cases where this happened were when the pc was shipped with the cooler installed, or banged or something, not just having the cooler installed normally.
