6600k at 4.6ghz with 1.4v is that good?

Ok you should go try set to manual and 1,35 v. If its idling the multiplier is ment to clock down so thats no issue.

EDIT: I forgot this guide tells you to put the voltage in auto, there's a lot of comments telling this is gonna burn the cpu please help

if you have stress tested it than yeah. mine is at 4.4GHz all cores at 1.3v using Z170m plus and a H105 with LTT :) fans

4.6 @1.3 is ok i didnt watch the guide or anything but people use much more voltage an go 1.4+v

it says almost 1.4V on AIDA 64, thats not that nice for long term on the Skylake, I would go back for 1.35v

Yes theres is option to turn of auto voltage on most mobos for get the actual name but it recomends turning it off on the rog boards. This fixes the issue of using more than the set amount of voltage.

I used intle burn test for 5 times and then the stress test from asus realbench for 24 hours.

Thats why they are sayings its a bad guide probly. In the bios there should be "cpu vid" or somthing similar set than to manual then set the voltage to 1.3 or 1.35. Is 1.25 by default from memory

auto voltage is sketchy and even manual isnt that great imo, adaptive is way better (unless your board has botched bios which was the case for asus motherboards, so some googling might be needed)

 

if you dont stress test enough, your games can start crashing with no obvious reason and really just unexpectable behavior of your pc

AIDA isnt good enough stress test in my opinion, you should also run prime95 and x264 tests

Its basicly trial and error. Set it at say 1,35 @4.6 run stress test for 30 mins if all good what you can do is drop the voltage further to say 1.34 and repeat until you find a point of instability. Theb set voltage to the last good one say 1.34 passed but 1.33 doesnt then use 1.34. In theory this isnt neccery as 1.35 is safe if it passes if it fail add slighty more or lower freq to 4,5ghz

some people will have the *facepalm* maybe when I say this but: This PC is not for gaming, I don't have a GPU installed, and there's not even 1 game installed, is a workstation, I mainly use Photoshop everyday, saying this Do I need the overclock? or should take that back to default speed

Did you change the muliplier? Looks like you only running a 9x muliplier now that should be 46 for 4.6ghz

Ok you should go try set to manual and 1,35 v. If its idling the multiplier is ment to clock down so thats no issue.

The multiplier changes with C states (simply cpu load) to save power. Thats also why manual voltage isnt great, because no matter how fast/slow your cpu runs, it still gets the same voltage. So use adaptive voltage instead (again, if the motherboard has fixed bios).

can just disable the c states also to run 4.6 constantly which shudnt be a problem
