Splitting Raid0 array

mechanicalfluff

I have 2 raid0 arrays. I'd like to break one of the arrays and use them as jbod. The other, i'd like to keep.

Is there a way that i can break the raid without losing BOTH arrays?

The info on the disks really isn't super important and it's backed up- but it'll be a real pain to re-download 100's of gigs worth.

I've gone through losing both the arrays before and it's a nightmare.

asus x79 deluxe using intel raid

1st array: 4 sandisk 240's ←← I want to break this one

2nd array: 4 wd 1tb blacks ←← I want to keep this one

might be able to do it by just selecting the specific array within the raid menu in bios, but i'm pretty concerned that it will fail and start from scratch again :P

Make a proper backup.

Break the disks apart.

Rebuild as one volume.

Add data back in.

Sit back and relax

Just backup both arrays and break the first

You should be able to break it in BIOS

And if anything goes wrong you still got all your data to rebuild

thanks guys. Goin' for it now. If i'm not back in 2 hours, my connection is too saturated downloading 985 gigs from a server.. :P

Definitely investing in an in-home nas next. Thinking about pi-nas

Make a proper NAS with ECC. Trust me. Lost my patient files when a server array broke. Luckily I have a backup/restore server for all the computers at the hospital.

Even though I built the servers myself, a user has revealed that Ebay has Dell servers for about 300 USB. The other option that I used before was an Asrock C2750 as it supports ECC and tons of disks without using a lot of energy.

Well, i'm alive. that was much faster than expected.

I've got a p9x79 laying around with a busted 8pin cpu power connector. I might just cut a cable, solder it on and use that board. Just have to find some ecc ram somewhere. maybe i can find a 'bundle' on ebay or something
