Alright, so yesterday was my birthday (yay me, spent most of my money on a Fractal Design Define Mini C and a HyperX Cloud Core) and got a new PC as well (specs are on my profile). A CX600M isn't bad, right? I've heard a lot of crap about it but it's not like it's going to destroy the damn thing, is it?

It's, let's say OK.

It isn't. While I would replace it if it was with a GTX 1080 or VEGA card, I would keep it if you have a lower TDP card then upgrade it next time.

What are the rough requirements to get into tier 1?

Look at Jonnyguru's review for the 750W EVGA G2 and all of the performance metrics that achieves. Within a very small percentage point of the ripple performance, features, etc that the unit there offers other units can reach T1.

But the Masterwatt was quite far off that, imo.

1,2%, 0,6%, 1%, and less than 15mV ripple on the G2 750W.

2,91%, 2,60%, 0,83%. 45, 45 and 50mV ripple on the Masterwatt.

Is the focus on the 12V rail?

:)

Yes, moreso on the 12V rail. I guess I didn't realize how poorly the unit performed. Perhaps I used a different model for the placement?

Would an EVGA B3 550W Psu be a bad choice for a ryzen 1600, Rx580 build? I want to get the Seasonic S12G psu cause its tier 2 but theres a ton of bad reviews about it failing after 10 months. Can someone also specify the tier lists is tier 1-3 good for gaming?

I don't think it'd be that bad of a choice, just be noted that the lower wattage EVGA B3s are a little less good than the higher wattage ones. I also believe the B2s had better build quality honestly.

What do you think would be a good 500-600W psu for a ryzen 5 1600, RX 580, 16gb of DDR4 ram build? Under $100 Canadian.

Not usually a fan of pcpartpicker. Their prices are often off, and they are usually missing a lot of units that are on the market and it takes them a long time to finally get them. Then they have old units that have not been sold for like years still listed. I feel like it limits myself too much.

eh, doesn't take very long to open up the link to double-check. you should see the pricelists in my local stores, nearly half the things in some stores listed are EOL+OOS for years and they still list it in xD

Seasonic sells lots of PSUs to various markets. Some people plug stuff into their PSU wrong and blow 'em up. It happens. Take user reviews with a grain of salt and read professional reviews. The S12 G is a very good PSU and superior to the EVGA B3 in my humble opinion. The EVGA B2 is also a good choice.
