Sega is also going to be releasing a mini-system. It will ship with 80 games built in, as well as support for Mega Drive/Genesis cartridges.

My feelings on this are the same as my thoughts on the mini-NES: These will be awesome for a cabin or any place that doesn't have internet access... otherwise I'll just use emulators or the Sega Collection on Steam. Disappointing at the lack of HDMI support though.

This does look like a cool console, though. Lack of HDMI is pretty disappointing. The wireless controller idea sounds nice though, I hope they're decent quality.It would really if they have a ton of input lag or communication issues.

 

Hopefully they don't price any higher than Nintendo just because this has more games.

Edit: Nevermind. Your title is misleading, this isn't being released by sega. A Chinese company called AtGames is going to be releasing it, these have been around for a while, and apparently they should be avoided. Sure it's probably licensed, but Sega isn't building these.

Actually these things have existed for quite a bit of time, this is just a new version it looks like. My store sold some like two years ago lol.

My wife has one and it's actually pretty good, the game selection menu is really smooth and cartridges work as good as they do in the original console.  The controllers don't feel as well made as a genuine Sega one does but they're more than adequate.

This is a smart move for Sega. All they really have to fall back on is nostalgia, at least here in the West where they refuse to localize Phantasy Star Online 2. A lack of HDMI isn't just disappointing, it's insane. And the one thing I wish was that it was expandable beyond the 80 pack-in games. The same goes for the NES Mini Nintendo is doing. I'd love to be able to slowly grow these libraries. I mean, yea there's emulators but I'd gladly pay a dollar or two to Sega/Nintendo to get digital copies of these old games, with save states running natively on this hardware. Still, though, the price is right and I'll probably end up getting one, even if just for novelty's sake.

These Sega clones have been around for ages. I have a GameGear one that's portable and it's decent enough for what it is, which is basically a portable Alex Kidd. Though it's no NES Mini for a couple of reasons. Firstly Sega's games aren't as good. As good as this list of 80 games here it's nowhere near as good as the games that are on the NES Mini. Megaman, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Contra, Kirby, Dr Mario, Final Fantasy. Also the NES Mini has HDMI out which is far better than VGA or worse still composite.....
