1080 for sure, the 780's are like old still are good but SLIing them over a single 1080 is pure stupidity

I'm a educated fool with money on my mind.

They say i got to learn but nobody here to teach me,if they can't understand it how can they reach me

Power and the money, money and the power, minute after minute, hour after hour

I've heard that SLI 780s are between a 980 and 980ti. That will mean they're likely to be a decent bit under a 1080 and around a 1070.
For $150 Id say it could be worth it, but you do have to remember a few things

A. You have to have a motherboard that supports SLI.
B. SLI gains scale not only pair to pair but game to game. So you'd have very variable FPS between games.
C. You need to have a PSU that can handle SLI.

D. Not all games support SLI so sometimes you'd be running on a single 780 as compared to always running on a 1080.

You will not have "alllot" of issues. It's not 2007 any more, sli is very well supported.

your main issue will be that with only 3gb vram your cards will be disproportionately powerful for it, and will probably be limiting you.

hm, forgot about that.

more pixels = more ram.

shit I guess my 780 will either become a nice hood ornament or a coaster

Ah, ok. I'd recommend a 1080 then. SLI isn't good because it does adhere to quite a bit of stuttering. A more powerful single GPU is the way to go :D

I find it so interesting how everyone on these forums are so against multi-gpu.

I am just getting back into the PC hardware scene, and back when I was heavy into it, pretty much everyone who had an enthusiast level PC was running multi-gpu.

Did everyone just give up on it?

I'd say it would be more reasonable to go single 1080/1070 if you're really even contemplating that. For one, it is a pretty massive leap in performance (even a 1070 would essentially be roughly a bit more than 2x780s at this point), and yes, SLI (and xfire for that matter) is temperamental as hell. Look at all the recent SLI benchmarks pumped out by all the big review outlets. Some run great, some run OK, and some just flat our run like crap. Contrary to the new "freshness" given to SLI (things are way better than they used to be and all that), as is the case with every new series release, no, the issues have not been eliminated. Bear in mind, even if the second 780 is pretty cheap to get, every single time it's not utilized, it's just a fancy heating unit in your case, not to mention wasted money. Whereas a single, way more powerful solution is more powerful 100% of the time.

nothing can be as worse as the sli 660ti's running 4 screens that I have.

thats an sli nightmare.  780's would be fine for 2 screens NOT in surround

It honestly depends on your use case. If you're usually running a pretty constant array of titles, which you know have good SLI support and scaling, by all means go for it. If on the other hand, you're going to be experimenting with lots of titles, ranging from AAA to Indie, I wouldn't recommend it.
