What kind of ISP do you have?

I am just wondering what internet service provides do you guys use? Comment what you like about it and what you don't like about it.

CIk Telecoms, the download speeds are pretty good for the price.

my upload is shi*t and ping spikes to 3000 every 10 minutes.

A semi-local ISP called Gigabit. 

As the name suggests they supply gigabit fibre. 

 

I have not found anything to dislike about them. 

Their price is pretty fair ($43/month), they haven't had serious downtime in the four years I've used them and their customer support is flawless.

 

I was thinking of upgrading to 5 Gb/s, but it'll cost $1.500 just to get it set up.

Comcast owns my area of Portland and although they're a bit on the expensive side we get 180 mbps down, 11 up on wired and we would get that on wireless if we had a good enough router. A couple years ago, when internet started getting competitive in Portland and a lot of areas that weren't owned by Comcast had really good deals on fiber, Comcast decided to give all their customers triple the download speed they paid for, our at least on our plan, so we got 60 down up until like 2014.

Frontier. We pay way too much for 10 megabit downloads. I could technically get 2 gigabit, but it is $300 a month. And for some reason there is nothing in between 150 megabit and 2 gigabit?!

CenturyLink, but my area is fortunate to have some ISP options other than just one ISP.

 

CenturyLink isn't too bad, it's not great but it's not a total rip off.

Like: Not much, finally can get 5/1 instead of 3/1... Paying $60 for it but still commits suicide for the entire evening everyday.

Hate: Goes out often, can be down for upto a week sometimes. No customer support cause reseller. Unpredictable and unreliable.

I hate EVERYTHING about my ISP. I can't torrent, our speeds (rated at 75/10) are NEVER delivered (highest I've seen in the past year and a half is 45/11), and our data cap is 200GB...

 

Not to mention frequent outages.

Comcast only because the other option is 6Mbps ATT DSL that doesnt work. We do get 75/10 however which is fast for our needs.

some no name WISP. until they roll out fiber to the middle of nowhere it's the best i got.

~2.5mb/s down is alright I guess but 300kb/s upload on a bad day isn't fun

Century Link. Probably the worst ISP to date. Pay $100 a month for 10Mb/s down and 600Kb/s. I never get that and every other week my ping spikes to 2000ms because it is their horrible routers.

no they will but you will be so  broke and  so would be your kid his kids and there kids . someone i know wanted to get it to his house only 500feet from the closest pole to his house 180K they wanted for above ground line . its cheaper to run your own and steal tv/internet and pay the fines when your caught then to get them to do it . this was in upstate ny near Syracuse, NY

FIOS is a failure in the eyes of Verizon share holders. Doesnt make as much money as wireless. Which is what Verizon gives two shits about.

*im very partial about this, as I work for Telenor - but the broadband market i Denmark is pretty awesome in general, loads of options for choosing ISP and loads of different speeds and packages to choose from. No bandwidth caps on anything fixed with any ISP.

Currently have the only 2 choices available, Comcast cable internet at 30/6 and ATT DSL at 4/0.5. 

 

I know when it comes to ISP's, people go total FANBOI, but to really step back and look at things, EVERY company can be FANTASTIC, and also manage to be TERRIBLE. It depends on your specific area, and the people you talk with on the phone, and the techs that come out. 

 

I have HATED Comcast in the past when I had them at an apartment. They would send a tech out, mess with all my stuff that wasn't even connected to the cable (GF was home for the visits, I was working, wish I could have been there). Then they sent me to collections over a $20 charge which was disputed numerous times and never actually got removed from the account, so I just paid it to get them to STFU. 

 

On to ATT, I had a DSL connection at my old house that was terrible at first, issue was with house inside wiring, I got that corrected, then the lines started to degrade and it got REALLY bad. Got rid of it, switch to Comcast, had issues and issues and issues, switched back to ATT when U-Verse came out, and it was BULLETPROOF for me. I had 4 days of total outage, which ended up being a realtor issue. When we were trying to sell our house, she cleaned up a bunch of cables in my office and ended up plugged the same cable into 2 ports on the same wall plate. Unmanned switch the entire wired network was down, but as we were showing the house, didn't find out until we went to check the DVR, and nothing recorded for a few days. Found out wireless was working fine, wired was hosed. Switch blinkenlights were going nuts, found the culprit, removed it, and all was well in the world. 

 

Current house, DirecTV guy came in, put up a dish, and CUT the comcast line coming into the house from their NID. I got pissed and yelled at him, made him rerun it because I told him 5 minutes before he cut it to not TOUCH it. Comcast guy came in to do their internet install (they had to run a new cable from the pole to the NID), I stood out there watching him, because he went to cut the DirecTV lines going into the house, and told him it would be bad for his health if he touched them. Then the ATT guy came to put the DSL in, and he borrowed my freaking tools. WTF bud? He used my fish tape, cut the end off, and left about 20 feet of it out of the reel just on the basement floor. Tools also scattered on the floor, not even where he found them. Thanks guys. They all got bad reviews. 

 

But anyways, yeah, it is all about who you interact with and where you live. Even people in the same area can have drastically different experiences because of this.
