a faster cpu would not help you at all as the motherboard is the limit. an i3 wouldnt be much faster either tbh. a i5 would be the best upgrade.

thanks

i am considering getting a core2extreme or a lga1150 mobo and a cheap i3

Well you'd need a better motherboard before you got any Core 2 Extreme, I can say right now that for example a QX6850 can cause problems on even mid range boards such as my P5Q Turbo.

i always thought it was the ram that was stopping me. i didn't realise it was to do with the mobo

As long as its DDR2 800, you pretty much can increase the FSB safely up to 1600MHz, however of course the motherboard+PSU then also dictate whether or not you can run the CPU stable at that FSB speed. Heat from the CPU can also be a problem as Conroe (65nm C2) really gets hot.

my ram is DDR3 1600 but with the memory multiplier set to 3.00A it wont go past 1029mhz and with it set to 2.40B it wont go past 823mhz and i have also tried 1866mhz corsair dominator ram and it didn't post

Just hope there isn't a 10oC delta between the packages, like there is with mine.

that is a motherboard chipset limitation then. on my x48 board i can get 1900mhz no problem.

This board is absolutely nuts, nearly 4100 mhz 12-12-12-28 1T R15 runs on air!

It literally takes no effort to clock my RAM on this board, I booted with a 3866 c12 tight profile in the BIOS, rebooted, booted with the 4000 one, then changed my RTL and IOL, rebooted and then messed with secondaries and tertaries, rebooted it again and ran CB.

I actually got a 1133 run, but I hit the "directkey" button instead of slow-mode switch which takes me to BIOS on next reboot, it crashed my windows when I pushed it :(

I tried re-running with 5g cache, but kept getting similar score.

Alright well this E5800 was not the best but at 4Ghz it would make a good 24/7 chip due to the low voltages at that speed. Anyways I didn't even bother to mess around with the new RAM with this chip so i'll save that for the E8400 :)

What board do you plan on using it in?

I think my Rampage Formula is p good, should do around 520FSB if I get better DDR2. I also have an E8600 that should do good because of the 10x multi.

The REX is still dead, I believe the BIOS corrupted on it.

520 FSB Is shite. I got 600 Out of a crappy P5Q.

That close to 500 MHz on 6X Multi.

It isnt actually .712V.

Max ram speed is determined by FSB, you need to be running at least 400 FSB to unlock DDR3 1600 IIRC. But it's a G41 chipset so it's a bit poo. Most G41s will do 333FSB + about 10.

For ambient you need up to around 580-600 for the high bin Ex300s and E8400s.

It was reading my CPUs turbo VID as I disabled various power management things including monitoring. The real set voltage was approximately 1.61V :)

It's not idle voltage, that version of cpu reads volts wrong, it was reading half of my actual volts.

I figured as much.  I learned two things from my first post about your voltage.  Some folks believed that it was possible as long as it was idling and I better start using strike through to emphasize any sarcasm!  :P   I thought it made for a great screen shot.

Good to see that new board is helping push that memory.  Any bandwidth tests on AIDA64?
