That's Bulldozer for you. Should look at getting a Bulldozer chip so I can compare it to a Pentium M770, Phenom II N970, then my various LGA775 chips (and the last Pentium 4 that won't die).

Yep, its single core is very amusing.. If the cache wasn't shared between 2 cores at a time (2 cores on one module instead of separate like a norm 8 core) it probably would hold up better in today's time.

Also its superpi score at 5GHz is laughable... (17 seconds)

What's the Xeons score? And you should be able to disable 1 of the ALU in each module.

I got 12.714 IIRC in 1M @6.1GHz or so using the BRCD tweak, AMDs x87 instructions are a bit slow. If the cache was faster than the RAM it'd hold up even better.. AMDs cache on the FX chips is a fail.

Stock haswell is approx 9.5-10s depending on efficiency and RAM. You can't do that on ASUS AM3(+) boards. It will disable full module only :(

Upgrade that to an i5 540M, and you'll be wrecking this laptop's Phenom II N970 all the time. I really need to get the motherboard for this laptop that supports the first gen Core i CPU (and which will give me far better battery life).

With my laptop at least, that TDP is way too high (hence no unlocked Phenom II in my laptop).

Well this one is an Alienware so it will be a bit better for such upgrades and he already spend $400 on buying a first gen i3 and 260M (i.e. 8800GTX with a die shrink). So he might as well spend the $100 to make it useful :P

I suppose...at least he doesn't have the first DirectX 11 capable mobile GPU though, still amazed that it runs FO4 fairly well even on 3.74GB RAM (256Mb for the primary dGPU, which has 64MB dedicated DDR2 800).

I'd hazard a guess and say that the VRM on that mobo can't handle the Q6600 above that clock speed.

no, its a g41 chipset, but yes the vrm would be the next problem as well.

On my P5K VM I couldn't go above 3.2GHz with my Xeon X5450, which is why I'm looking at the VRM. Plus its only a 4 pin power connector, that's a limiting factor right there.

a faster cpu would not help you at all as the motherboard is the limit. an i3 wouldnt be much faster either tbh. a i5 would be the best upgrade.
