Tell that to all of the Asus Sabertooth owners who have had problems with one of Asus's supposedly most durable motherboards. And their laptops and tablets/convertible tablets.

IMHO the Sabertooth is a pile of shit and a gimmick with their whole "armor" thing.  It doesn't take away from the fact that some of their boards are still fantastic and some of the best on the market.  Albeit they are expensive.

Ok so R15 does not seem to like something about this setup, might be something with NewCastle or the 754 platform in general but 11.5 and 2003 worked in the meantime :)

My 4790K needs 1.29V for 4.6GHz, and up to 1.35V is safe.....couldn't you push the voltage higher?

That's really weird, never expected any of the Devil's Canyon chips to be like that. Looking at your rig it can't be anything bar the CPU-and since I've had my 4790K at 4.8GHz on an Asus H87M Pro (4 phase VRM-the FIVR really makes cheap mobo an option for overclocking), motherboards really don't matter when it comes to overclocking Haswell.

I'm ok with the score. Just that magic 4,7 number is missing xD

For me its the magic 5. Even my Pentium E6500K can be taken to 4.4GHz while being on air and a cooler that's slightly worse than what a Pentium 4 would have come with. The amount Haswell can be overclocked without resorting to LN2 or high end custom loops is kind of sad. Though my E8500 could have managed 4.4GHz at a 24/7 safe voltage unlike the E6500K.

Regarding voltage that i5 is odd on it's own.

Stable runs 24/7

4,2 1.16v

4,3 1.19v

4,4 1.21v

4,5 1.23v

As soon as it hits 4,6 it refuses to boot under 1.27v. With 4,7 no matter what voltage applied it gets initial bios post and instantly to whea bsod. Seems a big jump from 4,5 to 4,6

I've vertified that 1.23v 4,5 run with a 9 hours stesstest. Should be good enough. Daily driver is 4,4 keeps it below 64 C° with the kraken aio.

Yeah, that is really abnormal. Its not like its hitting a voltage wall (like my E6500K, 1.4-2V, 4.4GHz was the limit).

Core 2 duo E8400 @5.2GHZ (1.6vcore)

The revision of the chip is E0

Cooled with a ghetto custom 360 rad closed loop.

Even at 5.2ghz it still sucks for cinebench compared to newer gen. stuff :P

With decent cooling, the average e8400 should get to 4.7-4.9ghz.

The voltage needs steep increase at and beyond 4.6ghz

I have 2 e8400's, one needs 1.33v for 4.5ghz and the other one needs 1.36v for 4.5ghz. I think you should be fine with the cooler you have (if its the slim one you have in your vids). my e8400 ran very hot on air cooler, hitting over 80c at 1.35v, but i think it was something to do with my cooler as jumper has compared his temps with mine and mine seemed to be abnormally high.

Interesting, yea using the Hyper T4 now but with a better board then in that video so hopefully get something out of it, will have to see what temps are like but in the mean time going to throw in an E2180 I found from a scrapped 755 Optiplex at work and see how it does :)
