yeah 1.4v should be fine one dual core even if you are blowing on it with no heatsink :P

Well, here goes nothing.

Edit: Annnd the PSU's overload and overtemp protection kicked in.

Finally got my 4790K running better, turns out that adjusting the VRM to run at full phased, and the FIVR to run at performance made a massive difference-though I couldn't replicate the top score with multiple re-runs (4.8GHz 1 core, 4.7GHz 2-3 core, 4.6GHz 4 core).

1600MHz is a no-go on my 1333MHz stick, no matter what timings+voltage are used, it refuses to post/run stable.

ok. what about the cache? you tried over 4ghz? 1:1 ratio is ideal.

4.6GHz is the maximum speed for the cache-I had it at stock for this run, and the cache's change in clock speed only shows if I adjust the BCLK (which makes my 4790K benchmark lower).

i dont think anyone has run an am3+cpu in an am2+ board yet but the only cpu that will benefit are single core and dual core locked chips that need a higher base clock.

try this.

turn off all power saving poo

set cpu core to 1.4v

set ram to 2-2.2v

set fsb to 1.38v

set nb to 1.38v

enable LLC

then see how high it will go. then i shall tell you how good it is.

I've replaced the PSU+set everything back to auto since I was getting lower scores than at 4.2GHz, for whatever reason the Deluxe runs best with everything left at auto, unlike my Sabertooth MKII.

nice :) you should run your memory at 1T , its a lot faster.

Unfortunately it won't accept anything I try with it, any lower timings or even 2600MHz/cl11 not stable at 1.75V :/

that is xmp speed though so it should work :/ what have you got the cpu sa voltage at? try a bit more voltage on that.

The profile I currently use had some tighter sub timings so it won't accept 1T.
But I think they perform equally as the other one has tighter sub timings.
I tried both profiles in 32M SuperPi and the one with 1T was whopping 0.3 seconds faster... B|

System agent has +300mV offset.

thats a huge amounts faster. the 1t will feel way faster in the os and normal use as well.

I tweaked RAM and IMC settings + added 1MHz in HT bus speed (I'm over 4,2GHz mark), it helped a bit :)
+I would like to request a "DDR2" text to be added in column for comments.

Ok. WTF. HW monitor open, no background programs closed, FF open. And it scored higher (4.8GHz single core, 4.7GHz multi core):

Untitled3.png

And the stability issues in the past definitely have stemmed from not enough current being delivered to the 4790K due to the motherboard's VRM not running at full phase, and the 4790K's FIVR at extreme. The power consumption has increased a lot since I made those changes, and the required voltage has gone down.

Yeah it actually seems to perform a bit better in aida64 cache & memory benchmark.
Also managed to slightly tighten some timings so now I'm running stable 10-12-11-28 1T.

Another tweak, using the FSB+setting the CPU input voltage to 1.9V, 4.795MHz, and the DDR3 is more crippling than I first thought, it only has 1 rank/1 side, making it a bit slower than the DDR3 1333 in my old laptop:
