Well if it works you can always sell it on again if it's not good.

I've found a 3960X for $115. Does a 3960X clock any higher than a 3930K avg/general?

Worth the extra $20?

Not really. 3960X looks barely worth it.

Alright, thanks. Managed to get the price of the 3930K down to $75 including shipping. Let's hope for a good chip!

It's horrendous atm, lol.

I haven't cared how it looks for a while now... I have some of my benchmark run things rigged and it's messy. The tubes to the 1080 mm rad with 9x ML120 fans are long enough so I can put it out of the window for benchmark runs :3 During light use, I don't run other than the top rad fans and the pumps are somewhere near setting 2 of 5. The HDDs are the loudest part in the system, I tried to silence them with a piece of towel, but they still manage to annoy me when I'm just browsing web etc. Got to swap them to maybe a single WD red hoping it's more quiet and because the oldest drive in the raid 0 is over 5 years old @ 15k hours, so it's about time.

Anyway, here are a couple of pics I just took of the current state, but don't tell me I didn't warn you, it's an insult to the PC water cooling community. How to fit all of my cooling inside a R3:

Spoiler

You don't.

Ya its not about the temps, those are aweseome even under prime95.

Im concerned about degrading if I go beyond the magic border of 1,4V and those settings are my 24/7.

I could try 4,8Ghz but tbh I dont think that my Skylake chip is capable of more than 4,8/4,9Ghz.

I have a day off tomorrow, ill try to push it further, if Im lucky you get a post right here.

If I'm not mistaken, Skylake can be pushed to 1.4V for 24/7 usage without any problems. I know of several who have ran their skylake at 1.45V for over 2 years as an example.

There you go 4,8Ghz but I got only 12 points more. I dont see any reason to go further than that, maybe if my new custom loop is completed.

you need faster RAM my dude. Maybe even cache OC to make that clock look like a noteworthy gain.

Actually Im pretty happy about reaching 5ghz. Atm Im setting up a new pc for my girlfriend, so she can get my quad kit of 2400mhz ram.

Which ram speed would you recommend for a decent gain in performance?

Btw what do you mean with  cache OC (my OC experience is limited to  the basic stuff im sry)?

At 5GHz with 3600MHz RAM and cache at around 4.8GHz you should be good for around 1120cb~ roughly. I'm going off HWBOT so those are most likely OC runs. Maybe even a 3400MHz kit would sufficient enough too I think. If you're not up for that costs involved there (given the current market) a 3000MHz or 3200MHz kit would do too.

In your screenshot cache is NB frequency it may be called uncore or simply CPU cache in BIOS. Cache OC helps memory bandwidth. It's not vital for 24/7 operation. But it can help with overclocking.

No cpuz in the screenshot . A stock 1800x gets about 1600cb. An overclocked one gets 1700-1900cb tbh a 1700>1800x in all cases. If you really wanted the fastest 8 core for no real reason the 1900x is better

idk how some people get 1900cb on a R7 1700. I've tried 4ghz with 2666mhz and can only get max about 1757cb
