Quick Review of The Lenovo L412 Laptop

iamdarkyoshi

I needed a college laptop, and this was what I went with:

And here it is:

So what else did I buy?

I bought an SSD. A 240GB one from Adata. And this laptop is super responsive and I love it.

Mine currently has a hyperthreaded dual core i3 at 2.4Ghz. I bought a 2.66Ghz Dual core hyperthreaded i7 for it for 23 bucks.

I only have 3GB of RAM, but even with a 64 bit OS, this thing is anything but sluggish. Time to the logon screen from a cold boot is 13 seconds with windows 10. I havent encountered any slowdowns. I do plan to buy more RAM.

Anyway, lets cover the laptop itself.

Trackpad:

The Good:

It supports multitouch and GLORIOUS webpage scrolling with two fingers.

It has a bumpy coating that actually lets your finger glide over it very easily while giving a bit of a tactile feel.

It is a good size and was placed well.

The Bad:

The bumpy coating is some sort of rubbery coating and mine is coming off. Underneath is a completely flat trackpad.

Keyboard:

The Good:

Nice tactile feel on the keys.

They are not very wobbly and they register keypresses well.

They are VERY quiet.

The Bad:

Lenovo. Why. Do. You. Guys. Still. Have. The. Trackpoint.

The trackpoint nub gets in the way while typing certain keys. And it looks stupid.

The bottom left key is the Fn key, followed by the Ctrl key next to it. I am used to the Ctrl key being right at the bottom corner.

The Screen:

The Good:

Its not too bad. The viewing angles are not great, but I have seen worse.

Its a perfect size for a laptop, 14in.

Mine has a matte display, but this laptop was also sold in a glossy flavor.

The bad:

Resolution is 1366x768. Its a little on the low side of resolutions.

The speakers:

No bass. They do sound very clear and loud but lack bass.

The gaming performance:

Oh screw off. Cant even run terraria.

The overall look and feel:

Its a lenovo. Not much has changed and I like it. It has really nice indicators for the buttons, like the mute button.

I am sure I missed a lot, but I have to go to math class.
