i7 6700 or i7 4790

Is it worth spending the extra 25 euro on a i7 6700 when my current build with a gtx 970 windforce and currently a 4790 is €800? Would i get much of a performance improvement?

well if a skylake mobo costs the same amount as your current mobo and all you have to pay is an extra 25 euro i would say yes

If you haven't bought the 970 yet don't waste your money on it. 3.5GB of VRAM is not enough anymore even at 1080p. You want to go for a 1060 or 480 (whichever is cheapest)

For such a modest price bump, I would totally say to go for skylake. However if you already have a 4790, then I would say that upgrading would not be worthwhile.

When in doubt, re-format.

Since it is only a little bit more, I would say go for the 6700.

Ok on amazon.co.uk theres a used i7 6700 for £243 in amazon warehouse and a new i7 4790 for £259 which would be a better option to buy?

Really depends on the condition of the item. the 6700 would be better if it works.

it depends on whether you already have a motherboard.

If not, then the 6700 is by far the better option.

When in doubt, re-format.

As you can see the single core performance of the 4790 is a bit more than 6700 so it doesnt really matter

i think you should go for a better card rather than spending the extra $25 on the processor

For starters, don't use CPUBoss. That site is pretty much useless. Second, the 4790 is not better than a 6700, as far as raw performance is concerned.

But anyway, if it's only 25€ for Skylake and DDR4, I'd say it's well worth getting the 6700 over a 4790. It's not as if you could get a much better GPU with that money anyway.
