GTX 10 series pricing so stupid right now

SHADY16

so been trying to find a EVGA 1080 SC ACX for my friend here locally and one finaly comes in stock at microcenter but for 799.99 which is more then even founders edition. he doesnt trust ordering online so it HAS to be in a store he can physically pick it up. and microcenter only price matches if the retailer has said item in stock which evga does not so yeah, and hes not stupid so he wont spend 800$ on a item with msrp at 650$

you might have to wait a while longer for prices to go down. If there is a best buy near you, they will price match

He can consider himself lucky. The EVGA 1080 SC ACX costs $1000 here.

Which is why I decided to get the EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4GB FTW+ ACX 2.0 'cause prices are outrageous and I am speculating that the GeForce GTX 1060 will be ill-fated to this BS that is shortages and outrageous prices. If the Titan P is more expensive than a pair of 1080 ACX 3.0 GPUs, then I'll stick with two 1080s.

Can't really blame him - Reference cards are almost universally terrible.

yeah, that's exactly what I mean.  Have the fan running constantly at 100% to get it to almost not throttle.

i upped power to 120% and themal target to 92c so its not even close to throttling altho i am worried about having it at 80c+ with 100% fan consistantly

yeah, afaik the default throttle temp is 80c, but i don't know off the top of my head. But this isn't Hawaii XT. It's not meant to run constantly at uber high temperatures.

think im doing any damage to it this way? even stock it was getting up to 75c with 100% fan, it was a open box at microcenter for 630$

I agree somewhat, but for someone like me who's looking for the reference layout and no custom board designs, then the ones using aftermarket coolers is the way to go (e.g. EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 ACX 3.0)

That's what happens when you have a company that releases a product for sale but doesn't actually produce enough units to meed demand. Thanks, Nvidia.

More of Nvidia and retailers price gouging earlier buyers more than anything. ?

Blame scalpers. You blaming Nvidia for high second hand pricing is like blaming the stadium for expensive scalped tickets. And Pascal actually offers a performance improvement over the previous cards, rather than just matching them. It's going to take time to produce enough to replace all the cards out there being used to fuel high resolution gaming.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

The price is not ridiculous.

You don't know what MSRP means and for that you only have yourself to blame.

The price of the GTX 1080 is SUGGESTED! Not forced. If I was an OEM, I could easily sell GTX 1080s reference for $2000 USD if I wanted.

Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price. The price is whatever the seller deems to be the correct price. the GTX 1080 is not a $650 GPU.

It is a GPU which is suggested to cost $650 but can ultimately cost up to a billion dollars if an OEM desired.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.
