Will a 1TB ps4 hard drive work for my desktop

The drive should work just fine. It's a standard SATA HDD. You may need to format it when you use it in a PC, but that's easy enough. A "quick" format would probably do.

 

The drive might be a bit slower than a regular PC drive, if it's only 5400 rpm, but it could be 7200 rpm (the same as most 3.5" drives).

 

And, of course, you can always add a cheap SSD later, to act as the OS/games drive, and just use the 1TB for data storage.

 

I think it's a great way to re-purpose a PS4 drive rather than chucking it out with the console.

I'm currently working on a PC build and ti save money I thought why not use my hard drive from my PS4. But then it hit me it might not work so I came here to ask you guys if you could help. Will it work or will it not?

 

I've attached a picture of the connections on it.

That is sata power and sata data so it might work

That is the same as a 2.5 PC hard drive. Just don't know if it is encrypted or not

They used normal laptop drives with universal SATA power and data connections so it should work fine.

You'll likely have to reformat it but that is about it.

I imagine all you have to do is format it to fat which can then have any OS installed to it.

Can't verify this though since I don't have a HDD from a PS4.

The drive should work just fine. It's a standard SATA HDD. You may need to format it when you use it in a PC, but that's easy enough. A "quick" format would probably do.

 

The drive might be a bit slower than a regular PC drive, if it's only 5400 rpm, but it could be 7200 rpm (the same as most 3.5" drives).

 

And, of course, you can always add a cheap SSD later, to act as the OS/games drive, and just use the 1TB for data storage.

 

I think it's a great way to re-purpose a PS4 drive rather than chucking it out with the console.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.
