AMD reveals info on Zen base Opterons

For gaming enthusiasts, and most definitely for those of the AMD persuasion, the upcoming Zen, is seen as a much-needed adrenaline boost for the company.

 

AMD has spill some info with their server cpus based on the Zen architecture. Code name Naples, these cpus will have up to 32 cores and 64 threads. It shares a 8MB pool of L3 cache, with it pegged at 64MB, and it's capable of executing 64 threads as long as it's within the 180w TDP range. The 32 cores is made up of 2x 16 core dies, and runs on socket LGA SP3. These cpus mightcome in a variety of core configurations, from the entry level dual core to quad, octo, and high-end 32 cores. It also said to support 16x 10Gbe controllers, 8 independent memory channels, and 128 PCIe Express Gen 3 lanes.

No but seriously, Zen has great potential, and when applied with that amount of cores, it will be a beast when it comes to video rendering, 3D modeling and anything CPU intensive. Good job, AMD.

32 core dies don't exist. Even Intel's 24 cores isn't a single die with 24 cores.

This is the kind of premature ejaculation that always ends in disappointment. You've no idea whether Zen has 'great potential' or that it will be a 'beast'. It could be utter crap for all we know.

I say it will have meh performance to what people think probably 4670k or s bit above that but all the cores for a killer price would make it an instant buy

Lets just hope that both die are binned the same. For example on my QX6850, there is a 10 degree celcius difference between die 1 and 2-making overclocking an utter PITA with it.

I'm just saying this is the kind of speculation that went on with the rx480 that ended with a bunch of threads to the tune of "OMGs rx480 such a disappointment. It was supposed to beat a Titan X!!! because WCCF Tech said so!!"

What speculation is there here? The +40% no one takes seriously and this 32 core business is coming from AMD themselves on the server side, which you really shouldn't lie on due to the businesses that use it.

Well "technically" they do.... Just look at Xeon Phi!  

But yeah, I don't think there's any CPUs with super weak cores out there that have 32 cores of more on a single die... It just isn't a smart idea.

This entire statement. How do you know it has great potential? Why should one be saying "Good job"? Maybe they haven't done a good job. This thing could be setting their work benches on fire as we speak. You have no idea.

AMD Zen Opteron is similar it's connected via a 100GB/s fabric. It's a server CPU, they're not that stupid to have them separated and running on its own. It has ultra high speed interconnect.

You have no idea either. Maybe they're running a sub-ambient and have the performance of 5 E5-2699 v4s. We don't know and that guy is basing his statement on previous leaks, so I'd just ignore it.
