Confused with PSU calculators. Will my PSU cut it?

Recommended Posts

So I'm planning to upgrade my current i3-4170 to an i5-4690 and my GTX 750Ti into an RX 480. I will also be throwing in an Intel 540 480GB SSD and a 3TB HDD to run along my current WD Blue 1TB. I plan on adding 2 more DDR3 dimms to populate all my memory slots. But here's my question:

I have been using different PSU calculators and they are giving me mixed answers. One side says stick with my current PSU (a Seasonic S12II-520). The other side says upgrade to 620W. So here's my question, should I upgrade my PSU to 620W or not?

Upgraded specs:
i5-4690
GA-H97M-D3H
G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 4GBx4 sticks
Intel 540 SSD 480GB
WD Blue 1TB
WD Green/Blue 3TB
Sapphire Radeon RX 480
Bitfenix Pandora
NZXT Hue+ (hueheuheuheuhe)
Worst case scenario for USB ports: 1 HDD dock, 1 Printer, Mech keyboard, Gaming mouse, DAC, 1 External HDD, 1 card reader, 3 flash drives.

PSU calculators = random number generators. They overestimate by a good bit.

Realistically, the build won't draw more than 350W under full load so you're good.

Thank you for your inputs guys ^_^ You sure saved my bacon xD
If anyone else has their two cents to share please do ^_^

Keeping the S12 is what you want to do, and ignore calculators as they are trash and just ask the forum how much power your parts will use.

An Rx 480 system has pretty much the same power consumption as a GTX 970 system, which is quite little. 520W will be more than fine considering that the S12 is a quality PSU.
