Spotify finally brings Windows Phone app on par with IOS version

Spotify has finally (after 5 years LOL ) brought their Windows Phone app on par with the IOS version. The app is exactly the way the IOS version works and looks with the exception of 3D touch due to lack of any Windows or Android hardware supporting this.

released an update to its Windows Phone app for Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile devices. The update brings a whole set of new improvements and fixes, which are sure to improve your experience of listening and exploring music.

 

The changelog displayed on the Store doesn’t appear to reference the latest update, but here’s what we’ve seen as being updated:

Pivot navigation – a navigation bar is now displayed at the bottom of the screen, allowing you to quickly explore the Spotify app

• Transition effects – several effects have now been implemented; as you switch between screens, menus and panels will now fade in-and-out
• Colour scheme – the colour scheme has been adjusted slightly, leading to a better experience with the eyes
• Improved settings screen – settings now load faster, are cleaner and display smooth effects
• Song, album and playlist listing improvements – it appears that the slowness on Windows 10 Mobile devices has been fixed, with all these listings now loading quickly and being smooth as you scroll through the results
• Skips the splash screen – from now on, if you’ve opened Spotify recently and go to resume it, it will no longer display the splash screen, instead it will go straight to what you were last viewing
• Search – the search function has been revamped; displaying instant results, a dedicated search page and shows your history

Through our testing of the app, it is much faster, particularly on devices running Windows 10 Mobile. Everything is almost instant, from searching, to viewing playlists, to resuming the app. It seems that the company has really put the effort into optimising the app.

 

 

 

The main emphasis with this was way more feature support and massive performance improvements! Well done Spotify! We love you .

Hey!   We've got Only 15 Million users. I'm guessing around half use Spotify or used it at one point.

 

And I know everybody is busy giving each other a good time (Use your imagination) in the RX 480 thread to compensate for their lackluster product,

Looks good I guess, but I had to use a VPN to get the update(why would this be region limited?!!). TBH I cant get excited over re-skinned apps, but its good to see a Windows app get an update for once(hopefully Spotify can maintain their app? only the future will tell).

This might be similar to the IOS version where only specific countries get the new version so they could test it to see if it works very well.

Also, Side note. I love how this new app version is listed as a "minor" update in their version numbering scheme. 5.2.3.0. The previous one was like 5.2.1.0 . So yeah....

I can relate. I have to spend $1500 on a new computer + extra warranty and I only have $200 left to do anything.....

My quick and dirty review: New looks, but laggy. The UI speed is reasonable, but there is too much time between songs(not internet lag, 50/15) and too much lag with the play/pause button. I hope this get fixed repetitively soon as it seems like i'm not the only one with these problems(Spotify forums and reddit).

This wasn't that it was ported (cos it's been here for years). It's just that it was never as good as the IOS version.

Yeah except it would be more like "Spotify is bringing Windows Phone to the mainstream with their all new high quality app which is as good as their IOS version."
