GeorgeKellow

I've got a 21.5inch 1080p aoc monitor (Without speakers) and I have msi gtx 970

At the minute I am using VGA (DVI to vga adapter) Would I notice a benifit by using HDMI?

I'd say HDMI. VGA is slowly dying, it's analog and picture washes out if you have a very long cable. On the other hand, HDMI can be confusing. If you don't pick the right cable you may run into some issues (the known one is the HDMI 1.4's 4K30 limitation). But the signal doesn't degrade even if you have a VCR that's 200 miles away (ok that's a bit overexaggerating but you get the point).

No, VGA is not perfect. As I said, it's analog and picture washes out over distance.

And also have fun looking at a blurry-as-hell 4K picture transmitted over VGA.

It really has problems transmitting high resolution images just because it's analog.

You don't need 4K, but if you want it to look much better 4K is the way to go. And all this talk about "I don't need HDMI". You want to follow along with the future (HDMI) rather than slowly die in the past? (VGA) Many more benefits to HDMI, like better audio and digital signals, so it doesn't depend on the cable you buy. I am still in school, and here we use VGA with the computer 10m away. It looks so terrible!

HDMI is a lot more crisp than VGA no matter the resolution VGA will always look inferior. trust me I have tried multiple monitors

If your vga cable is a good quality one, probably not.

you'll still notice a difference, I can switch to VGA on this monitor for my second desktop and I will instantly spot a difference in how crisp the image looks and this is with my best VGA cable I have in my shop

Still.. at 1080p there's no difference tbh..

there most definitely is a difference. It's been cleared up back when 1080p was the 4K of its time.

Meh, all squabble aside, on that monitor you won't see any improvment worth mentioning. You can switch to hdmi but don't expect to notice anything in your case. BUT, bear in mynd that hdmi is a newer standard, and it's digital, compared to vga's analog signal. Which, like somebody up there said is prone to deteriorating over long distances. But if your cable is less then 5m long you have no reason to worry.

I was the same at the beginning. I put an i7 with a GT 740 4GB and I thought it was good. But it wasn't.

You will learn from time that VGA is obsolete and that the HDMI is the future.

VGA has no future. Like c'mon! VGA is chillin' around since the early 90's (and maybe even earlier)!
