RX 480 Pics and Benchmark Leaks Emerge from China

A new leak has emerged from China, with pictures of the RX 480 and More Firestrike Results. Unfortunately it appears that Radeon Settings is pulling a Unigine Valley with the numbers.

 

These Firestrike results may confirm that the earlier Videocardz results were from a slightly overclocked 480. 

 

There is nothing to quote. 

 

As with all leaks, they should be taken with a jar of salt. Some leakers may be using default settings, while other leakers may be tweaking Radeon settings to get higher scores. At this point we just don't know, and we won't know for sure until the 29th.

 

(As a side note: "GPU-Z was updated today to support Polaris, which means if any leaker wishes to post a screenshot, then he/she should be using 0.8.9 version.")

I doubt it would perform like a 380X. Makes 0 sense if it did...

The finicky clockspeed may indicate it's not boosting properly.

As a comparison, here is a Firestrike Ultra result of my overclocked 390. With a hefty overclock, the 480 should probably be able to surpass or match this score.

I might not understand these results, never having used firestrike myself, but it seems as the score of the 480 (5251) is already higher than your score (3143). How would the 480 still need an overclock?

It scores 5856 in Firestrike Extreme. Isn't that faster than an R9 390? Also you guys are looking at the wrong scores. In the Firstrike Ultra benchmark the graphics score is hidden behind the window.

Scores still seem too low and don't add up. If these are true then the 480 performs like a 380X or 390 - seems a bit low honestly. And there are also different results from the same leek (FS:E) so I guess this might be alpha drivers or no drivers at work

As for why the RX 480 performs in the R9 390 range in Fire Strike Ultra, I'm guessing no proper drivers are out for it yet. Doesn't make sense since Fire Strike Extreme puts it at that rumoured GTX 980 sweetspot.

It appears to be 30% slower than my Fury which probably puts it within 390 range. I also noticed they're using Crimson 16.5.2 which is very old. 16.5.3 came out almost one month ago and 16.6.1 has been out for two weeks.

That might actually be the reason. If the drivers aren't there the hardware isn't doing it's best. We know that from experience with a 970 without drivers in Hitman


When the driver released it increased performance by 50% in that case

Scores still seem too low and don't add up. If these are true then the 480 performs like a 380X or 390 - seems a bit low honestly. And there are also different results from the same leek (FS:E) so I guess this might be alpha drivers or no drivers at work

According to that other leak, there's a substantial difference between the 4 GB version and the 8 GB version.

That makes 0 sense. The GPU core is the same, the bandwidth is the same, that leak is full of shit.

but in the other leak, the 4gb was running at a significantly lower clock speed while the 8gb version was running at 1266. I dont know if that was a bug or what but yeah, let me try to find it.

It was AMD fucking with the people who break NDA. The Alpha drivers fucked with clockspeed intentionally from what I've heard
